The Jeep Grand Cherokee is getting a significant makeover for 2022. It's been Jeep's midsize SUV for a while now, with a nice mix of luxury and off-road power. But after the last few years, it was starting to feel a bit old, so it's great to see a new one coming out.

There are many positive aspects of the Jeep Grand Cherokee- it's got top-notch transportation and off-road performance, it's comfy and big, and it's got all the latest tech. Plus, it's got some fantastic driving aids that make driving easier and safer. But when it comes to value, it could be better.

What about comfort?

It is one of the Grand Cherokee's most vital areas. The front seats are surprisingly comfortable, even on long drives, and both front and rear outboard seats have ventilated and heated seats. The optional air suspension adds to the plush ride, smoothing bumps without making it feel too bouncy.

Grand Cherokee came with four-zone temperature control. The fans whirring at maximum speed didn't blow as much as we expected, but it maintained a set temperature well. Interstate road noise was one area where it could have done better. That's an issue for an SUV that's so expensive.

The Grand Cherokee has come a long way in its fifth generation. It's still a robust and powerful SUV, which looks just like it did when it first came out. The Compass and Meridian have a box about 5 meters long and 2 meters wide, and the front is dominated by a seven-slate grille that adds width.

The headlights are modern, and they look great on the Grand Cherokee. The rearview mirrors are also lit with LED lights but don't look as cool as the headlights. The big 20-inch tires are tucked into the wheel arches, but they could use a makeover with some dual-tone alloy.

There are no vast exhaust tips or flashy lighting, but the rear bumper is covered in one-piece chrome with LED taillights. The Grand Cherokee is still true to its roots and individuality, even though it doesn't appeal to the usual luxury car crowd who want all the bells and whistles.

Fuel economy of Jeep Grand Cherokee

According to the EPA, the Grand Cherokee gets 22 mpg combined, which is good for a midsize SUV. But if you're looking for a 4WD model with a V6 engine, you'll want to look into the plug-in hybrid option. But the V8 engine is what we need to rate this area.

The Grand Cherokee gets 17 mpg when combined with the V6 and 4WD. Our test car got 17 mpg on our highway-centric test, so we wouldn't expect to see anything more than that in our regular driving. So make sure you budget some extra money for gas.

Interior and Space of Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Grand Cherokee is an up-to-date, rugged SUV with an all-black interior that's roomy, supportive, and comfortable. The center console is a touchscreen with dark open-pore wood, black piano accents, and brushed metal. The front seats have 8-way power adjusters with memory function and a heated steering wheel.

There are plenty of storage indoor pads and the center armrest. Driving posture and positioning on the dash are great, and minor details like the extendable sun visor that wraps the entire window are nice touches. The Grand Cherokee has plenty of room in the back and a level transmission tunnel because the back seat is a bench, and there's no third row. The chairs are comfortable, but the low placement restricts the seating position and necessitates raising the knees.

The front seats have plenty of head, leg, and foot space. The backrest can be lowered for added comfort. The large panoramic solar roof and rear window solar blinds enhance comfort. The boot is easy to fill up and has a 1.076-liter capacity for luggage. The boot also has a quick-opening electronic lid and a space-saving 18-inch wheel.

Features and Equipment of Jeep Grand Cherokee

If you're looking for a top-of-the-line SUV, the Grand Cherokee is the one for you! It's got a touchscreen that's 10.1 inches big and wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and more. Plus, it has all the off-road info you need, like critical temperatures and more. It also has a 360-degree Navigator-style camera and front and back washers. It has a charging port in the front, two Type C connectors and two USB A connectors, wireless charging, and HDMI.

If you're planning a family road trip, check out the live video of the back seats. You'll need to use your music since the audio output isn't connected to Alpine's 9 speakers. There are eight airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, TPMS, hill start, and level 2 ADAS features, including lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, automatic braking, and cross-traffic warning, among other safety features.

Engine and Performance of Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Grand Cherokee is powered by a 2.0-liter petrol engine that produces 272 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, plus an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine instantly makes you think it's not good enough for a car this size. It's linear, has a diesel-like feel, and is refined and smooth. The turbocharger takes some time to kick in, and the car hesitates before taking off. The power is mid-range, and the Cherokee can cruise like a champ if you stick to the throttle. But since it's a petrol car, the throttle reacts better, so overtaking is easy.

The transmission is super smooth and likes to shift quickly, so if you put a lot of pressure on the accelerator, you'll need to switch gears a few times before you can get going. Even in Sport mode, there's still a lag. But the engine is smooth and sounds manageable once you get it up to 4.000 rpm. It does an excellent job for an engine that's only 2.0 liters and has to power an SUV that weighs just over two tonnes.

The Ride and Handling of the Jeep Grand Cherokee

The suspension is another one that stands out. Steel springs are the alternative to air suspension. They may not seem as sophisticated as air suspension, but they're a better choice for Indian roads. Indian roads have more bumps than undulations, and a traditional setup is easier to maintain. It's also much more durable off-road than air suspension.

On our rough roads, the Jeep Grand Cherokee handles like a champ. It doesn't slip on cracks or potholes. But its soft setup allows vertical movement above expansion joints at high speeds.
