Alzarri Joseph

Alzarri Shaheim Joseph is a talented Antiguan cricket player who excels in both Test and One-Day International cricket for the West Indies squad. He can bat right-handed and bowl right-arm quick, making him a versatile and all-rounder player. He is an important member of the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots and the Leeward Islands on the West Indian domestic field. When Joseph joined the Mumbai Indians in the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) to replace Adam Milne, he became a well-known name across the world.

Joseph, who was born in Antigua on November 20, 1996, is 6 feet 5 inches tall. He has received recognition for his cricket career, including the 2016 Antigua and Barbuda Sportsman of the Year award. Remarkably, he played an important role in the win of the West Indies in the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Alzarri Shaheim Joseph is still one of the most prominent players in West Indies cricket because of his outstanding bowling and batting abilities.

Domestic Career

In the Regional Four Day Competition of 2014-15, Joseph, a talented West Indies under-19 player, made his debut in first-class cricket with the Leewards. Notably, in a match against Guyana the following season, he opened the bowling with Gavin Tonge and took his first five wickets (5/99). In the next match, he took another five-wicket haul against the Windward Islands, completing his brilliant performance with scores of 7/46.

Joseph was selected for the West Indies team for the 2016 Under-19 World Cup, which they ultimately won, in December 2015. He demonstrated his bowling ability throughout the competition, collecting 13 wickets in six matches to place third overall and leading his side in wicket-taking. His 4/30 against Zimbabwe was one of his best games, and it earned him the rightful man of the match award. Joseph's cricket career took a step forward in October 2019, when he was named to the Leeward Islands side for the 2019-20 Regional Super50 competition.

International Career

In the third match of the series on August 9, 2016, Joseph made his Test debut after being called up to the West Indies Test team in July 2016 for their series against India. On October 2, 2016, he made his debut in the One Day International (ODI) against Pakistan.

Joseph was given a contract by Cricket West Indies (CWI) for the 2018-19 season, which included all cricket forms, in October 2018 after CWI saw his promise. During the first Test match of 2019, he played through the devastating news of his mother's death after the second day of play, demonstrating an incredible amount of perseverance.

The West Indies' Test series against England was postponed from May to July 2020 because to the COVID-19 outbreak, and Joseph was able to secure a spot in the team in June 2020. On December 5, 2020, in a match against New Zealand, he accomplished a noteworthy feat by reaching his first Test fifty with 86 runs in the second innings. He made Cricinfo's ODI team of 2020 thanks to his outstanding achievements in the limited-overs category.

Joseph was selected to play for the West Indies in their Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Bangladesh in June 2022, continuing his cricket career. His T20I debut came on July 29, 2022, when he played for the West Indies against India.

As his side defeated South Africa by seven runs on March 28, 2023, in the third Twenty20 International, he claimed his first-ever five-wicket haul in T20Is, underscoring his talent in the format. The ICC's ODI team of 2022 and ESPN's Best XI of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) of 2022 are the two awards Joseph received for his great efforts.

T20 Career

Joining the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in March 2019, Joseph took Adam Milne's spot. On April 6, 2019, against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, he made his IPL debut, and he had figures of 6/12. It was just amazing. In addition to beating Andrew Tye's 5/17 in 2017, this performance broke the record for the greatest bowling numbers in the IPL and was the finest performance by an IPL rookie.

With his accomplishment, Joseph surpassed the eleven-year-old mark held by Sohail Tanvir (6/14) and set a record for T20 bowling figures-only Deepak Chahar's 6/7 remains higher. Besides that, he followed in Andrew Tye's footsteps as the second player in IPL history to claim five wickets on his debut. In the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium T20 contest, Joseph's exceptional bowling stats continue to hold the record.

He was picked to play cricket for the Amsterdam Knights in the first-ever Euro T20 Slam in July 2019, but sadly, the competition was called off the next month. The Mumbai Indians released Joseph before to the 2020 IPL auction. In July 2020, he was subsequently selected for the 2020 Caribbean Premier League by the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. In February 2022, he returned to the scene when he was purchased by the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League auction, despite not being successful in the 2021 IPL auction.
