He has 2 smaller siblings called Mikaela and Stephen. Charles met with an accident at the age of 2 that left a spot on his eyebrow from a puppy bite. His mother guided him on how to play the piano when he was 4 years old, and he learned jazz at age 10.

At the age of 12, he joined a jazz group for young people at Count Basie Theatre's Cool School in Red Bank, New Jersey. He also played music for a Charlie Brown show at The Count Basie Theatre.
