Dhananjay Bhattacharya

Dhananjay Bhattacharya was an Indian Bengali singer and composer who was born on September 10, 1922, in Bally, Howrah, Bengal Presidency, British India, and passed away on December 27, 1992, in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, at the age of 70.

He was one of the best vocalists from Bengal and the son of Surendranath Bhattacharya. He was an excellent, multifaceted Shyama Sangeet vocalist.

Personal life

  • He attended Rivers Thompson School, Bally, Howrah.
  • His brother's name was Pannalal Bhattacharya. He was eight years younger than Dhananjay Bhattacharya.He was an Indian vocalist who sang Bengali music. Bengali Shakta poets Kamala Kanta Bhattacharya and Ramprasad Sen wrote most of the songs he sang.
  • Dhananjay was married and had three sons.
  • Only Dipankar Bhattacharya has accepted responsibility for continuing his father's legacy among them.
  • Many claim that he and Pannalal offered their songs to Kali in an attempt to win her approval. Career

  • He began his career as a singer of contemporary Hindi and Bengali songs. In 1940, he recorded his debut song "Jodi bhule jao more or janabo-na-abhiman" with Pioneer Company. In 1943, he had his first replay. Shyama Sangeet was his most well-known song. In the 1956 film Sadhak Ramprasad, Dhananjay sang 23 of the 24 songs.
  • He was skilled in using a wide range of popular song genres, including modern Bengali, Rabindra Sangeet, Kirtan, Bhajan, Baul, Ramprasadi (of Ramprasad Sen), Nazrul Geeti, and Shyama Sangeet. He was also proficient in Hindustani classical music. He performed for more than fifty years.
  • His songs are available on 500 albums. In addition, he penned lyrics for over 400 songs under the pen names "Shri Partha" and "Shri Ananda." Among the films in which he appeared were "Nababidhan and Pasher Bari." In the latter, Salil Chowdhury's song "Jhir Jhir Jhir Jhirjhiri Baroshay" shot to fame right away. Other songs that are still in demand include "Jhanana Jhanana Baje," "Ei Jhir Jhir Jhir Batase," and "Matite Janmo Nilam."
  • The fact that he was also a prolific songwriter, writing under many pen names, was one of his best-kept secrets. For instance, Pannalal Bhattacharya wrote a great deal of successful songs and musical creations.
