Java Short byteValue() Method

The byteValue() method of Java Short class is a wrapper class.

Syntax

Return value

Returns the value of this Short class as a byte after a narrowing primitive conversion. If we override byteValue in Number class then it will return Numeric Value represented by this object after conversion to byte type.

Example 1

public class ShortByteValueExample1 { 
 public static void main(String[] args) {       
Short s1 = 45;    //Returns the value of this Short as a byte after a narrowing primitive conversion       
byte b = s1.byteValue();      
System.out.println("byte b = " + b);     } }

Output:

Byte b = 45

Example 2

public class ByteValueExample2 { 
 public static void main(String[] args) {       
 Short s1 = -125;    //Returns the value of this Short as a byte after a narrowing primitive conversion       
byte b = s1.byteValue();      
System.out.println("byte b value = " + b);     } }

 Integer obj = new Integer(68);            // it will returns the value of Integer as a byte type.        
byte b = obj.byteValue();

Example 4

public class byteValueExample4 { 
 public static void main(String[] args) {      
Integer obj = new Integer(137);            // it will returns the value of Integer as a byte type. 
 byte b = obj.byteValue();        // Due to byte range "-128 to 127" it will print 119 in output        
System.out.println(" byte Value of b = " + b); 
 
 } 
 
}
