Ex-Top Cop Joined Politics In 2021 To "Cleanse The System" and Received An AAP Ticket In Punjab

Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh entered politics in 2021 to "cleanse the system" and claimed to be simply a candidate in the election, but it is the people of Amritsar who are fighting for him.

The 52-year-old was the Aam Aadmi Party's candidate in North Amritsar, which was where he competed against current Congress MLA Sunil Dutti and former BJP minister Anil Joshi.

Mr Singh is a well-known face of the AAP in the Majha region, where the party is expected to perform well in the assembly elections.

The retired IPS officer joined the AAP in June 2021 after being welcomed by the party's national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal. Singh believes he stood into politics to "cleanse the system."

Mr Singh previously served on the Special Investigation Team that investigated police shootings during anti-sacrilege riots in Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan in Faridkot in 2015.

He was also the Superintendent of Police in Amritsar City in the early 2000s and the Senior SP from 2007 to 2009.

During the elections, Kunwar Singh and his party planned to aid the people of Amritsar and Punjab after winning the assembly elections.

He listed the protection of women's safety, health, and education, as well as the improvement of harmony and security, as a high priority for both his party and himself.

When asked in an interview why he chose to run from Amritsar, he stated that the people of Amritsar heavily influenced his decision to enter politics. He also claimed that the AAP would put an end to Punjab's "mafia raj" and that the party already had a strategy to battle the global drug outbreak, which he said has harmed the future of thousands of young people. According to Singh, other critical areas included keeping Amritsar a clean, green, and crime-free city. The safety of women and the prevention of crime against women would be prioritized.

According to the former police officer, political interference in the day-to-day operations of the police force was increased. He also promised that police would no longer obey the orders of politicians and that any political pressure from the police officers would be removed.

The party also launched the Punjab Bachao Mission and aimed for complete political transformation, a change. He got a lot of support from the general public.

Mr Singh also added that if his party wins the election, education will become more focused on employment, and new opportunities for young people to work will be created.

Despite the fact that other political parties did not emphasize environmental issues, Kunwar Singh stated that the AAP would develop a "green manifesto for Amritsar, and safeguarding the environment features significantly in their campaign."

He further claimed that AAP leader Kejriwal keeps his promises, as he did in Delhi. AAP party provided assurance, and Kejriwal offered support in health and various other areas. The party also promised to distribute ₹ 1,000 to women each month.
