Maddelacheruvu Suri

Introduction

Maddelacheruvu Suri (also known as Suri) was a criminal and faction leader from Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur area.

He was a key figure in Rayalaseema, infamous for factional strife.

Early Life & Education

Suri was born in 1963 in the hamlet of Maddelacheruvu. His father, Maddelacheruvu Pedda Suri, was a village leader and a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) member. Suri completed 12th grade before dropping out to assist his father in his political career. Suri became active in politics at a young age, joining the Congress party in the early 1980s.

In Politics

Suri soon advanced through the ranks of the Congress party, and he got close to YS Rajasekhara Reddy, the then-chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. He also became a close associate of Paritala Ravindra. Suri's connection with Rajasekhara Reddy and Paritala Ravi, on the other hand, deteriorated in the early 2000s, and he was subsequently removed from the Congress party.

On January 24, 2005, hired assassins exploded explosives near the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) party headquarters and shot Paritala Ravindra, who died instantly. Suri was the prime suspect in the crime and was apprehended by authorities. He was also a suspect in the death of Paritala Ravindra, who was murdered in a bomb explosion. In 2006, he was freed on bail.

After being dismissed from the Congress party, Suri formed his own political party, the Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi (RAPS). He was also drawn into the faction strife that was widespread in Rayalaseema then. Suri was accused of being involved in several murders and other illicit activities.

Suri was shot and died in 2011 by his bodyguard, Bhanu Kiran. The assassination was largely seen as an act of vengeance by Bhanu Kiran, whose father had been murdered by Suri only a few years before.

In 2012, Suri's murder case was finally concluded. Bhanu Kiran was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Four other defendants were acquitted.
