UPSC Journey

Nandini cleared the UPSC exam in 1994 and was selected as the Indian administrative officer (IAS) in the West Bengal cadre. At that time, she worked under Jyoti Basu. He was chief minister of Bengal in 1994, and Nandini was famous for her role because she was the CM's favorite officer due to her integrity and behavior. Later, After CPIM (Communist Party of India Marxist) fell in 2011, Mamata Banerjee of the TMC took over as controller of West Bengal.

In the starting days, Nandini had a good connection with CM Mamta Banerjee. When she worked under Banerjee, Nandini served in several important posts: West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation, the commissioner of the presidency department, the secretary of the West Bengal Tourism Department, and the chief secretary of the biotechnology department.

Nandini Chakraborty afterward had to deal with Mamata Banerjee's anger for criticizing the state of West Bengal's spending on festivals and fairs. Additionally, when she raised concerns about the placement of government advertisements in particular newspapers, her relationship with Mamata Banerjee deteriorated.

Later, things between her and Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister, got better again. Sunil Kumar Gupta served as Governor of West Bengal under Dhankhar's administration. When Dhankhar moved to Delhi in 2022 to become the vice president, Sunil Kumar Gupta was appointed vice president's principal secretary. After that, IAS Nandini Chakraborty was appointed the new chief secretary when La Ganesh took over as acting Governor. Nandini served as CV Anand Bose's principal secretary before he was elected Governor.

Since Durga Puja, there have been discussions over Trinamool's communications with IAS Nandini. At the Puja Mandap of the "Ram Mohan Sammelan" during Durga Puja in West Bengal, Trinamool state general secretary Kunal Ghosh and Governor's principal secretary Nandini Chakraborty were spotted together. Pictures of Kunal and Nandini sharing a stage quickly became popular.

The Governor invited Sukant Majumder, the BJP state president, and Subvendu Adhikari, the head of the opposition, to the chalking ceremony, but no other BJP members received invitations. However, a large number of Trinamool Congress lower-level politicians were present. Suvendu Adhikari, the opposition leader, claimed Nandini Chakraborty was responsible.

Removal from the Post of Principal Secretary

When Nandini took a photo with the TMC leader and the photo went viral, the whole matter heated up and the opposition leader got an opportunity to defame the party. Subvendu Adhikari, the opposition leader activist, took a voice against Nandini for favoring the state government and using the chief minister Raj Bhawan for political purposes. She was also targeted for some other reasons as well.

After this incident, the Governor of West Bengal took back the Nandini's principal sectary post. The most significant allegation against Nandini was that she created a heated argument between Navanna and Raj Bhavan by providing the wrong information to Navanna about Raj Bhavan. According to Governor Shiv Anand Bose, he planned to hire Nita Saxena as his consultant and would not require Nandini anymore.
