Pamela Chopra was a well-known Indian Playback singer; she was one of the most popular and multi-talented personalities in the entertainment industry. Pamela Chopra was born on 19th February 1948 and died on 20th April 2023. She is also known by the name 'Pam Chopra'. Pamela Chopra was the wife of the most experienced Bollywood film director, Yash Chopra. Pamela has also written many films and sometimes worked as a producer. Before marriage, Pamela's first surname was 'Singh', which she got from her family after being born in Amritsar, Punjab. Her father Mohinder Singh was in Indian Army. Pamela Chopra had two siblings, both boys who were younger than her. She was the eldest child.

His father was transferred to different areas of India at different times. However, she got the benefit of studying in army schools in different states of India. She got to know about different regions and cultures of our country, as she explored a lot. Pamela Chopra was the cousin of famous actress Simi Garewal. Pamela Chopra's father and Simi Garewal's mother both were siblings, thus they had very close relationships.

Career

Besides being a popular singer, Pamela Chopra has produced and directed many films. She also got credits in the films which were directed by her husband Yash Chopra. Although Pamela Chopra mainly worked as a producer, she also sang songs for many Bollywood movies. She wrote many scripts for the films which were directed by her husband. Pamela Chopra was widely known for dancing, as she learned Bharatanatyam in her school days. But, she never appeared to perform any dance in her lifetime.

She spent most of her time in making her career in singing, producing, and writing. In 1970, Pamela married the filmmaker Yash Chopra. It was an arranged marriage that was held with all customs and rituals. Pamela and Yash Chopra together was a perfect couple and they were very happy together; Pamela Chopra had also told this in an interview.

In 1971, Pamela and Yash Chopra's first son, Aditya Chopra was born and in 1973, Pamela gave birth to her second child, Uday Chopra. Aditya is a director and a film producer, and later, he married a famous Bollywood actress, Rani Mukerji. Pamela's younger son Uday is also an actor and a film producer.

Pamela Chopra started singing songs in movies in 1976. She sang her debut song "Surkh Jode Ki Yeh" for the film "Kabhi Kabhie" with some co-singers, such as Lata Mangeshkar and Jagjit Kaur. Then in 1977, two more songs - the first one was "Angna Ayenge Sanvariya" and the second one was "Jaan Meri Rooth Gayi" - were sung by her for the movie 'Doosra Aadmi'. In 1978, Pamela Chopra sang the song, "Ja Ri Bahena Ja" for the movie 'Trishul'.

In the year 1979, Pamela sang songs for two movies, one was 'Noorie' and another one was 'Kaala Pathar'. The songs of these films gained a lot of popularity and were counted in the list of hit songs. In 1981 and 1982, Pamela Chopra sang four songs, "Aaja Aaja Yaar Habibi", "Khud Se Jo Vada Kiya Tha", "Chale Aao Saiyaan" and "Idhar Aa Sitamgar".

Many films were released in the years 1984 and 1985, in which Pamela made an important contribution. Pamela sang the song "Gudiya Chidiya Chand Chakori" for the movie "Lorie" in the year 1984 and the song "Mora Banna Dulhan Leke Aaya" for the movie "Faasle".

Then in 1991, Pamela Chopra sang the song "Freak Out", a parody song that was part of the movie 'Lamhe'. By the next year in 1993, Pamela Chopra sang the songs "Meri Maa Ne Laga Diye" and "Solah Button Meri Choli" from the movie 'Darr'. She sang the song "Meri Banno Ki Aayegi Barat" for a very popular movie 'Aaina', which was released in 1993.

Then after two years in 1995, Pamela Chopra sang the song "Ghar Aaja Pardesi" with the co-singer Manpreet Kaur for the movie "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge". In 2002, Pamela worked with Lata Mangeshkar, Udit Narayan, and Sonu Nigam, for the song "The Medley".

Till 2004, Pamela Chopra worked as an associate producer. Later, she produced many movies. She also worked as a writer and dress designer. Undoubtedly, Pamela Chopra was a multi-talented Indian personality. The songs composed or sung by her are still played and liked by the audience.

Death

Pamela Chopra died on 20 April 2023; she died due to Pneumonia at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. Pamela died at the age of 75 and she was admitted to hospital because of her age-related issues. Her condition was worsening and she had to be put on a ventilator before death. Apart from this, her husband Yash Chopra had already died due to dengue fever on 13 October 2012; he died at the age of 80.
