Raju Srivistava

Introduction

Satya Prakash Srivastav, also known by the stage names Raju Srivastav and Gajodhar, was an Indian comedian, actor, and politician who lived from December 25, 1963, until September 21, 2022. He migrated to Mumbai in the 1980s to work in the Hindi film business after being born in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Among other films, he appeared in Baazigar, Bombay to Goa, and Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya. He participated in the comedy competition The Great Indian Laughter Challenge & finished in second place. He was crowned "The King of Comedy" in its spin-off program, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge - Champions. He performed live stand-up comedy frequently. Since 2014, he has been a supporter of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Early life

He was born in a Kayastha household 1963 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Ramesh Srivastav, his father, was a poet. Srivastav enjoyed imitating movie stars as a youngster, especially Amitabh Bachchan.

Career

He relocated to Mumbai in the 1980s, when he began his acting career by playing small parts in Bollywood movies. He played a brief role in the Rajshri Productions film Maine Pyar Kiya and smaller parts in other films like Baazigar and Bombay to Goa. He appeared in the Bollywood film Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya as both an actor and a comedian. He made his stand-up comedy debut in 2005 on the talent competition The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, where he came in second place. He then participated in its offshoot, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge - Champions, where he took home the "The King of Comedy" title. Because of this show, he rose to fame. He performed more than 2,800 live performances by 2009.

He expressed concern about the coarse language in comedy shows in an interview from 2009. He thought that comedians should learn self-control. Srivastav took part in the third season of Bigg Boss (Hindi), the Indian version of the Big Brother series. After more than two months inside, he was voted out of the house on December 4, 2009. Srivastav got threatening phone calls from Pakistan in 2010 telling him not to joke about Pakistan, and underworld dons Dawood Ibrahim during his presentations.

Raju and his wife participated in Nach Baliye season 6, a couples dance competition on StarPlus 2013. Additionally, he had an appearance on Comedy Nights with Kapil.

He participated in the Hindi reality television talent competition Mazaak Mazaak Mein 2016. He took part in the comedy performance Comedy Ka Maha Muqabala in 2019.

Political Career

Srivastava stood for the Samajwadi Party (SP) in the Kanpur Lok Sabha constituency in the 2014 elections. Srivastav, however, returned the ticket on March 11 because he felt he was not receiving enough support from the party's local units. SP anticipated that he would resign because the race for the seat had grown crucial. After quitting, SP withdrew his application for Kanpur.

On March 19, 2014, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just a few days after quitting SP. The BJP declined to give him a 2014 Lok Sabha ticket. He ran an electoral campaign for BJP candidates in the Lok Sabha and Assembly. He was chosen in 2014 by the BJP-led Union government to serve as the campaign's brand ambassador and recorded commercials for it. Srivastav stated on social media in 2018 that he would have the opportunity to run for Lok Sabha as a BJP candidate in the 2019 Indian general election, but that opportunity never came to pass.

He was named head of the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Council by the state's BJP-led administration in March 2019.

Raju Srivastav criticized the writers and performers of the online series Tandav in a brief video clip posted on social media in January 2021 for allegedly hurting Hindu sensibilities by disrespecting Hinduism and Hindu deities. In reaction, director Vinod Kapri and others posted several recordings of Srivastav's comic performances, in which he made fun of Hindu gods and the Ramayana, an ancient Indian work of sacred literature. According to Kapri, Srivastav made fun of the Hindu god Brahma and quipped that his white beard would turn red if he met the actress Madhuri Dixit.

Sunil Pal, a comedian, praised Shrivastav after passing and said, "He would assist juniors to obtain gigs. Additionally, he would assist his first-year students financially and ensure they were paid fairly for their time. The comedy circle underwent a lot of positive adjustments because of him. The death of Shrivastav, according to comedian Bharti Singh, is "a great loss for the entire country."

Death

Raju Srivastav experienced a cardiac attack on August 10, 2022, while exercising on a treadmill in the gym. He had complained of chest discomfort. He had angioplasty surgery and was put on a ventilator. During his therapy, his brain showed signs of swelling, and he also received care from neurologists. His status has been described as serious ever since the cardiac attack. He passed away while receiving treatment in Delhi on September 21, 2022. On August 10, 2022, Raju Srivastav had a heart attack while running on a treadmill in the gym. He had expressed soreness in his chest. He underwent an angioplasty and was placed on a ventilator. His brain revealed enlargement throughout treatment, and he received care from neurologists. Since the cardiac arrest, his condition has been characterized as critical. On September 21, 2022, he passed away while receiving medical care in Delhi.
