Death has taken him away from his loved ones and the family continues to look forward to seeing Riley again.

Riley's affection for Nevada County was strong, especially for the Yuba River. For Riley Yuba was his constant haven whenever he went home, regardless of where his schooling or job took him. Riley was brimming with energy and passion, with a desire to constantly learn more. He earned degrees from NCSA, Ghidotti, Sierra College, and UC Davis. He understood from an early age that he desired to be a firefighter or a doctor.

Riley's selection to Stanford for a clinical internship in medicine was a high point in his life. His first word as a baby was "firetruck," therefore it was fitting that he finally chose this career.

Riley honed his firefighting skills while serving as an EMT with AMR Sacramento and the CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit. His willingness to assist others shone through as he valiantly addressed the hurdles of emergency response. He became completely immersed in wilderness dispatch. He had a genuinely thrilling experience.

Riley advanced to the huge leagues of AMR's busiest unit, where he served as an EMT. The day he voiced his excitement about donning his new Level IIIA Body Armor vest is remembered by his family and relatives, but we were a little concerned.

Riley's life journey ended tragically early on March 4th, 2023, leaving a legacy of heroism, kindness, and unwavering determination. Though his physical presence is passed, his soul lives on in the hearts of those who were close to him, motivating others to move forward in his footsteps.

Riley grew up with a profound love for the natural outdoors. During his early years, his dad introduced him to the sport of gold panning and sluicing on the Yuba River in Northern California. It was an experience that entailed digging under roots, moving enormous rocks, and getting messy while bonding with the earth that the Lord had given us. He took great delight in discovering new areas, investigating nooks, and immersing himself in the beauty of God's creation.

Additionally, he liked watching Gold Fever on the Outdoor Channel and, later, the Gold Rush series on Discovery Channel, which increased our interest in this sport even more.

Riley was lucky to have a close circle of buddies who shared his passion for gold panning and mining. They spent several hours together outside, enjoying the thrill of cooking over an open campfire, soaking in the beautiful sights and sounds of nature, and finding a treasure trove of gold.

Riley James' Celebration of Life was held on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Blue Goose Event Center in Loomis, California.

Attendees came together to celebrate and remember Riley, exchanging wonderful memories and commemorating his extraordinary life of service and inspiration. The evening began with a time for interacting, followed by an open bar and food, allowing people to gather in remembering. Chief Danny Renfrow announced the Honor Guard for the Presentation of Colors, which signaled the start of the formal service. The gathering ended with a moving flyover farewell, paying honor to Riley's undying spirit and courageous legacy.
