Riteish Deshmukh

Born on December 17, 1978, Riteish Vilasrao Deshmukh is an Indian actor, producer, screenwriter, presenter on television, and director who works in Marathi and Hindi movies. Vilasrao Deshmukh, a politician, is his father.

After starring in Tujhe Meri Kasam (2003), Deshmukh went on to work in a number of popular films, including Big Masti (2013), Housefull (2010), Double Dhamaal (2011), Housefull 2 (2012), Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum (2012), Masti (2004), Bluffmaster! (2005), Malamaal Weekly (2006), Heyy Babyy (2007), Dhamaal (2007), Housefull 3 (2016), Total Dhamaal (2019), Housefull 4 (2019), and Baaghi 3 (2020). His portrayal of a serial murderer in the romantic thriller Ek Villain (2014) won him a lot of praise from critics.

Early life

Vilasrao Deshmukh, the Union Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises India, and Vaishali Deshmukh, the former chief minister of Maharashtra, welcomed Deshmukh into the world on December 17, 1978, in Mumbai. Amit Deshmukh, his older brother, is an MLA from Latur City, while Dhiraj Deshmukh, his younger brother, is an MLA from Latur Rural. His younger sister-in-law Deepshikha Deshmukh is a film producer, while his elder sister-in-law Aditi Deshmukh is an actor.

Deshmukh attended G. D. Somani Memorial School and graduated from Mumbai's Kamla Raheja College of Architecture with a degree in architecture. He worked for a foreign architectural business for a year. Since coming back to India, he has kept up his designing. Deshmukh continues to hold a portion of the Indian architectural and interior design company Evolutions.

Career

In the romantic flick Tujhe Meri Kasam (2003), Deshmukh debuted in Hindi cinema alongside Genelia D'Souza. Later, he was in the movie Out of Control. His part in the comedy-thriller Masti, his third movie, was largely mocked. Still, the movie did well at the box office. After winning two small honours for his work in Masti, he rose to popularity. He then made appearances in the box office failures Bardaasht and Naach. In the much-maligned sex-comedy Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, he played his first somewhat successful starring role opposite Tusshar Kapoor. Although the movie received negative reviews from critics, it was well-received by viewers and reported to be a moderate box office success. Through his humorous performances, Deshmukh had by this point established a solid reputation in the Bollywood film business.

Apart from Bluffmaster! starring Abhishek Bachchan, he had appearances in Apna Sapna Money Money and Malamaal Weekly. In addition to Namastey London, which was a box office blockbuster, he appeared in guest parts in Ram Gopal Varma's Darna Zaroori Hai. Cash came after in 2007. He made his directorial debut in the critically acclaimed Heyy Babyy, which also starred Fardeen Khan and Akshay Kumar, later that year. He was in Dhamaal, a comedy movie. Then, he appeared in a supporting part in Ram Gopal Varma's Rann, which once again starred Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, and Amitabh Bachchan. Do Knot Disturb, starring Govinda, Sushmita Sen, Sohail Khan, and Lara Dutta, was his last movie of 2009.

He collaborated with Sajid Khan on the comedy Housefull (2010), which starred Jiah Khan, Arjun Rampal, Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar, and Lara Dutta. Despite the film's strong box office performance, reviewers gave it a poor review. In F.A.L.T.U., his debut film of 2011, he portrayed the fictional college principal Bajirao. The comic sequel Double Dhamaal was his second release of the year. Both were huge successes and grossers that exceeded expectations.

He made his film debut in Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya in 2012, when he was cast opposite Genelia D'Souza, his actual wife. Despite having a tiny budget, it turned out to be a commercial success. He subsequently starred in the highly successful Housefull 2 sequel, which debuted on April 6, 2012, just like its predecessor. It's been said that Ritesh's greatest hit to date is Housefull 2. On July 27, 2012, the sequel Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum became available, marking his final release of the year.

Then, despite earning unfavourable reviews, Deshmukh featured in Grand Masti, the September 2013 movie that was a box office blockbuster and a sequel to the 2004 hit Masti. On January 4, 2013, Deshmukh made his feature film debut as a producer with the Ravi Jadhav-directed Marathi film Balak Palak. Deshmukh has made the decision to adapt the movie into Hindi.

Deshmukh starred in two very different films in 2014: the romantic comedy Humshakals, which bombed at the box office, and the romantic thriller Ek Villain. For the first time in his career, Deshmukh took on the role of the antagonist in Ek Villain. Ek Villain was a big financial hit and won several acting honours. In addition, he debuted as an actor in the Marathi film Lai Bhaari, an action movie, that same year. He had a brief appearance in the film Entertainment, which did not perform well at the box office.

He had an appearance in Bangistan in 2015 alongside Pulkit Samrat. The comedy-satire movie got mixed reviews from critics. But it was a box office fiasco.

He had an appearance in the musical drama Banjo as well as the third episode in the Housefull and Masti series, Housefull 3 and Great Grand Masti, in 2016. In 2017, he had an appearance in the comedy film Bank Chor. At the close of 2018, he starred in his second Marathi film, MAULI, which was a box office hit. He made an appearance in the third Dhamaal installment in 2019, titled Total Dhamaal, which was well-received despite negative reviews. He starred in two additional films that year, Housefull 4 and Marjaavaan (as a villain following Ek Villain). Both films had mixed reviews, but did well at the box office. His greatest hit to date is Housefull 4, and his performance in Marjaavaan received praise.

He costarred alongside Tiger Shroff and Shradhha Kapoor in Baaghi 3 in 2020.

With the Marathi-language romantic drama film Ved, which he co-starred in alongside his wife Genelia D'Souza, Deshmukh made his directorial debut in 2022. It was a remake of Shiva Nirvana's 2019 Telugu-language film Majili, which he also wrote and directed. On December 30, 2022, it was released to favourable reviews from both reviewers and viewers. In his Koimoi review, Shubham Kulkarni gave the movie a two and a half star rating and attacked the narrative writing's predictability, saying, "Ved has good things laced with predictability and that kills the vibe." The songs have been shot effectively, according to Kulkarni, who said of the inexperienced filmmaker, "He [the director] blends the music, story, and performances so well." Deshmukh, according to Kulkarni, "has a director in him but, he is too bud completely yet." For Loksatta, Soham Godbole said, "The best aspects of the film are the cinematography combined with Ajay Atul's music, [which] takes the film to greater heights." Godbole commended the ensemble acting, the cinematography, and the music. "This movie is sure to be a treat for those who are madly in love and those who love madly," Godbole said. "Ved is a quintessential romantic drama," according to Mihir Bhanage, who gave the movie a rating of three stars out of five and noted that it "has been shot aesthetically." In his review, Bhanage said, "The music by Ajay-Atul is good."

Personal Life

Since they costarred in Tujhe Meri Kasam, Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza's 2003 first film, tabloids have frequently speculated that the two are romantically involved. According to reports, Ritesh's father, Vilasrao Deshmukh, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra at the time, was against them getting engaged. Later, D'Souza responded to reports that she was in a relationship with Deshmukh by saying that they were simply friends. Nevertheless, the pair ultimately tied the knot on February 3, 2012, in a Hindu wedding ceremony was followed by a Christian wedding in a church the next day, in accordance with Marathi marital customs. On November 25, 2014, a son called Riaan became the couple's first child. On June 1, 2016, their second son, Rahyl, was born.

Films

Production and Other Work

In 2013, Deshmukh established Mumbai Film Company, his own production company, with the award-winning Marathi film Balak Palak. In 2017, he went on to create another Marathi movie called Faster Fene.

In 2022, Deshmukh transitioned from writer to director with the Genelia-produced film Ved. At the end of 2022, it became the top grossing Marathi movie of the year and the third most grossing Marathi movie ever made.

Furthermore, he has presented a number of award shows, such as the Zed Cine Awards and the International Indian Film Academy Awards. He debuted on television as a judge on India's Dancing Superstar in 2013. He has co-hosted the quiz show Vikta Ka Uttar and the chat programme Yaadon Ki Baaraat. In 2021, he made his online debut alongside Genelia D'souza as co-host of Ladies vs. Gentlemen. He has been regarded as the prosecuting attorney in the Case Toh Banta Hai since 2022.

Along with Dhiraj Deshmukh, he founded the Veer Marathi cricket side in the Celebrity Cricket League in 2013. He led his squad as a player in this league. Genelia D'Souza served as the brand spokesperson for Veer Marathi. In The Times of India's 2018 list of the Top 20 Most Desirable Men in Maharashtra, he came in third place.

The actor gave Rs 2.5 million to his hometown of Latur for the "Jalyukta Latur" project, which aims to supply enough water to the arid area following the April 2016 droughts that Latur experienced. In response to the 2019 Indian floods in Maharashtra, Riteish and Genelia contributed Rs 2.5 million towards flood relief efforts.
