Sripathi Panditharadhyula Balasubrahmanyam Charan, Known by his stage name S. P. B. Charan, Charan is an Indian playback singer, actor, and producer who is best known for his work in Tamil cinema.

The well-known Indian musician S. P. Balasubrahmanyam's son began his career in playback vocals for Tamil and Telugu films. His acting debut was in the 2003 Kannada film Hudugigagi, but his work in the 2008 film Saroja is arguably his most well-known role. S.P.B. Charan was born into a Telugu Brahmin family, on January 7, 1972, in Chennai, Tamilnadu, India. The late, great vocalist S. P. Balasubrahmanyam and his wife Savitri are the parents of Charan. Chennai is where Charan was born and raised. Pallavi, the elder sister of SPB Charan, is a singer as well. He attended Asan Memorial CBSE School in Chennai, where he was friends with and classmates with well-known Tamil actor Ajithkumar. Charan made his acting debut with his father in the never-released film Maha Yedabidangi, directed by K. S. L. Swamy. He starred in the K. Balachander-produced and Sundar K. Vijayan-directed television series Oonjal in 1999.

Additionally, he played the lead role in the TV series Akka Chellulu in Telugu and Bommaigal in Tamil. The Kannada film Hudugigagi, which was helmed by B. Manjunath, was his debut release in 2003. The film won four Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, and it was notable for having a musical score composed by Charan's father, Balasubrahmanyam. Charan disclosed that after listening to Samuthirakani's narration, he decided to produce the movie. In 2005, he produced the poorly received Telugu film Varsham, remade as Mazhai starring Jayam Ravi. His next project was the critically and commercially successful film Chennai 600028 (2007), directed by Venkat Prabhu.

His sixth film, Aaranya Kaandam, was widely praised when it was released in 2011 and made headlines for receiving 52 cuts by the local Central Board of Film Certification. Despite the film's lack of anticipated box office success, Charan, who produced it, took home a Swarna Kamal at the 59th National Film Awards. Personal Life

Together with his childhood friends Venkat Prabhu and Premgi Amaren, he formed the musical group Next Generation in 1996. Thaman and Yugendran were other members of the group. Late in 2010, Charan saw a significant drop in weight. He clarified that it was in reaction to growing health consciousness in response to rumors. Following an incident at a party, Sona Heiden filed charges of sexual assault against Charan in September 2011. He filed a defamation countersuit while out on bond. After Charan apologized, the matter was dropped as part of an arrangement mediated by his father. He remarried in early 2012 after his first marriage ended in divorce.
