Tecno Camon 20 Premier Review

Introduction

Tecno is a company that has come a long way in recent years. It started with a focus on developing countries in Africa, but it's grown so fast that it's now reaching new places. One of its most popular models is still the Camon. Camon phones are the top-of-the-line models in a range of Tecno phones primarily geared towards people with lower incomes since Phantom devices are becoming increasingly popular.

Tecno Camon 20 Premier Review

The Camon series is all about big screens, big batteries, a top-notch camera, and top-notch performance at an affordable price. And that's the case with Camon's new Premier 5G model. As the name suggests, the "Premier" model is the best.

Quick Facts About the Tecno Camon 20 Premier

Tecno Camon 20 Premier Review

There are several advantages to the Camon 20 Premier, particularly in the camera area. Its primary camera sports a large 50MP sensor, laser autofocus, and even tri-axis sensor-shift OIS, which are uncommon capabilities, especially on a phone with a low price point.

The ultrawide camera, though, may still be more alluring. It includes a massive 108MP sensor with focusing, which can also be used as a macro camera. It is a pretty exciting camera all the way around. The front of the Camon 20 Premier features a sizable 32MP module with a twin LED flash, so it doesn't compromise on selfies either.

Additionally, the remarkable hardware components are not simply found in the cameras. The 6.67-inch, 120Hz AMOLED display of the Camon 20 Premier is enormous. Additionally, it has a dual speaker arrangement. A sizable 5,000 mAh battery with 45W rapid charging is also included. Additionally, the phone has a cutting-edge MediaTek Dimensity 8050 processor. On paper, the Camon 20 Premier is quite promising.

Unboxing

Tecno Camon 20 Premier Review

When it comes to accessory packages, Tecno has a solid track record. We are pleased to say that the Camon 20 Premier is a typical example. It comes in a typical two-piece box with an extra plastic tray for the phone inside that is strong enough to safeguard it.

It doesn't get any better than this in terms of accessories. A USB Type-A to Type-C connection and a 45W Tecno charger are included with the Camon 20 Premier. A beautiful pair of USB earphones with an inbuilt microphone is also included in the box. Since the phone doesn't have a 3.5mm jack, these are Type-C.

Additionally, Tecno has included a very high-quality phone cover. It is constructed of soft yet durable rubber and is semi-transparent or frosted on the reverse. There are only so many more box fillers than this.

Design

Tecno Camon 20 Premier Review

From our perspective, Tecno has successfully created a unique product with the Camon 20 Premier. It's hard to misidentify that camera island because of its distinctive form. It blends perfectly with the geometric design surrounding the device's rear.

The back is a robust rubbery substance with a fine texture resembling vegan leather. The text and geometrical lines that make up the pattern are buried into the surface in deep grooves.

The Tecno Camon 20 Premier is available in Serenity Blue, which looks black in renderings, and Dark Welkin. We like the dark Welkin color. It's a subtle pastel color that's exciting and exciting.

The bezels are color-coordinated, which is a nice touch. The blue tone on our device is the same as the backside, but it's a bit wider. The frame is super shiny and full of fingerprints. The one good thing about the back is that it doesn't collect dirt. The central frame looks a lot like the iPhone's. It has a big flat area and tapers off on either side. Tecno Camon 20 Premier has a lot of similarities to Apple, but it still has a unique look.

It also looks modern from the front. The display bezel is relatively small, and the screen-to-body ratio is 89.3%. The bottom chin is notably small. On the other hand, the top bezel is just a bit thicker and houses some sensors on the right side, as well as a pair of LED selfie flash modules, an earpiece, and a speaker.

The selfie camera punch hole is a decent size, and it's not too big, either. You'll be able to hold the Tecno Camon 20 Premier comfortably. It has a good grip and is well-balanced. It doesn't feel top-heavy, and it looks excellent and substantial. There's also no visible hole in the back. The Tecno Camon 20 Premier weighs 202.5g, measures 161.9x74.3x7.8mm, has a 6.67-inch screen, and has a 5,000mAh battery. No promises of compactness are made.

The Quality of the Build

Tecno Camon 20 Premier Review

As mentioned above, the build quality is durable and substantial. The Camon 20 Premier's backside is smooth, if that's what you mean. It feels pretty thick. Speaking of materials, we've noticed a sponge-like texture on the back. We appreciate that it doesn't collect dirt and doesn't appear to be prone to scratching. Since most Camon 20 Premier is plastic, we can assume a plastic panel is underneath.

There's nothing wrong with using plastic for construction - it's strong and lightweight and won't bend or break easily like glass. Tecno did a fantastic job of giving the phone a metal look with the glossy frame. The Camon 20 Premier, on the other hand, doesn't have an official rating for ingress protection, and Tecno won't give us any details about what's on display. We can only hope it's some glass, but if not, you'll just have to leave the plastic screen protector on or get a glass one.

Controls

Tecno Camon 20 Premier Review

The control arrangement of the Camon 20 Premier is reasonably standard. The power and volume buttons are on the phone's right side and have the same glossy finish as the surrounding frame. We don't like the vertical positioning of the power button. It's a little too low for our taste. The tactile feedback of the buttons could be better too. They're a bit on the mushy side, but nothing too wrong. The entire plastic central frame is intact, leaving the phone's left side blank.

The upper side of the Camon 20 Premier is manageable too. There's a small hole in the middle of the phone and a speaker grill. It's an intelligent touch, allowing the two speakers to blast music more balanced and sideways. It also makes it harder to hide the speaker with your hand. The second speaker is tucked away behind a large grill on the bottom of the phone. The primary microphone and SIM tray are also present. The SIM tray has two Nano-SIM slots, which is a nice touch. Unfortunately, there's no expandable memory slot. The Type-C port is also present.

The Camon 20 Premier uses an optical under-display fingerprint scanner. It's straightforward and precise. Given the advances in fingerprint technology over the last few years, we expect nothing else. The front of the phone houses the selfie camera in an appropriately sized punch hole. A couple of front-facing sensors are tucked into the top bezel on the phone's right-hand side.

There's no notification LED on this phone. That's because Tecno managed to fit two front-facing LED camera flash modules into the top frame of the phone, arranged in a row on either side of the right-hand earpiece.

Connectivity

Tecno Camon 20 Premier Review

The Tecno Camon 20 Premier has two SIM card slots, offering 5G connections for the sa and nsa. The Wi-Fi is dual-band and A2DP/LE, but it could be better for local connections.

We're happy to see an FM radio, NFC, and USB Type- C for data. The max transmission speed is 480Mbps, which supports USB Host and OTG. Other than that, there's little to say, like video output.

Tecno Camon 20 Premier has almost all the expected sensors, like an accelerometer, a light sensor/proximity sensor, a magnetometer/compass, and a barometer.

AMOLED Display 6.67-inch, 120Hz

Tecno Camon 20 Premier Review

The Camon 20 Premier has an AMOLED display that looks great on paper, with a refresh rate of 120Hz. But when you compare it to other displays, it looks less impressive.

The Camon 20 Premier's brightness was only around 493 nits, but it does have an automatic brightness increase in the settings that were able to emit up to 684 nits in our testing. That's enough to get by in the sun, but only expect to be able to use it in the sun for a short time.

The good news is that since it's an OLED panel, it still gives you super-bright blacks and what could be called infinite contrast. There are two different color modes in settings: original and bright. Plus, you can adjust the color temperature too. Both modes are designed to work with a wide range of colors, and the original mode is cold and blue immediately. The bright mode, on the other hand, is a blast - it lights up the blue channel.

There's some good news, though - you can keep your original color mode to the default settings and heat the colors with the slider. The display has good coverage and low deltaE values, making the panel color-correct. The color reproduction is accurate, too. The display doesn't support HDR but can handle HDR10 and HDR10+ hardware decoding.

Unfortunately, it doesn't support Dolby Vision either. The phone has top-of-the-line WAV (Widevine L1) DRM certification, so services like Netflix can stream FullHD movies and get full saturation.

Processing at a High Refresh Rate

Tecno Camon 20 Premier Review

The Camon 20 Premier displays a 120Hz refresh rate. According to software reporting, it supports the following modes of operation: 60 Hz, 90 Hz, and 120 Hz. The phone has four settings options: 60 Hz, 90 Hz, 120 Hz, and Auto switching. The 60 Hz mode works as you would expect. It simply fixes the refresh rate at 60Hz. The modes at 90 Hz and 120 Hz differ slightly from each other. Most of the time, these modes work according to motion logic. 90Hz mode works at 90Hz; if there is no movement on the screen, the phone automatically switches to 60Hz.

Unfortunately, video player apps do the same thing when watching a movie. They play movies at 90Hz instead of 60Hz, which wastes power. Even if you use a refresh rate mode, some applications will only run at 60Hz. The way 120Hz mode works is the same as 90Hz mode. If there's movement on the screen, your phone will be set to 120Hz; if there's no movement, it'll be set to 60Hz. That's not too bad, but the video is still shown at a high refresh rate (like 120Hz).

Automatic refresh rate switching works the same way the other two modes do. When there's action on the screen, you'll get 120Hz; when there's nothing, you'll get 60Hz. It's the same thing.

The only real benefit of the Auto switching mode is video playback detection. We noticed that video player apps now run at 60Hz instead of the usual motion-based logic. That's the expected behavior, but we did notice some weird behavior with each program. For example, Chrome only runs at 60Hz, while Techo Hi Browser only runs at 120Hz. But the Gmail app suddenly decided to use the motion logic and run at 120Hz, which is different from the other modes.

So, naturally, we checked out high refresh rate gaming. We ran a few games with frame rates over 60 Hz, and it was a struggle for Auto-Refresh rate mode to keep up. The bad news is that only one of the four games turned up at 120Hz. The good news is that the 120Hz option, which could run three out of the four at 120Hz, did much better when playing high refresh rate games.

Tekno has a good foundation for handling high refresh rates. Its motion-based logic works well because it usually works smoothly and consistently across the UI. We also like the extra video playback logic with Auto refresh rate mode. High refresh rate games need some work and could be better. We suggest using your phone in Auto mode and switching to 120Hz mode when playing games that support more than 60fps.

Battery Life

The Camon 20 Premier is powered by a robust 5,000mAh battery. Although this is the first time we've seen the MediaTek Dimension 8050 in our labs, we have some expectations. The new 6nm chip should handle comparable battery life, as it's relatively close to the Dimension 1200 and the Dimension 1300.

Battery life is best described as "reliable," but it's certainly not great. The Dimension 8050 is a relatively efficient semiconductor, and in our verified proprietary testing, our phone ran for 107 hours. We tested the web surfing on the phone at its maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, while we ran the video test at 60Hz.

Charging

The Camon 20 Premier supports 45W of charging and comes with the Infinix charger you need. It can charge up to 11V/4.1A; the standard output is 5V/2A. Charging is slow, though - it takes about a minute to top off. Our tests showed that it went from 0% to 26%, then 47%, and took 1:14 hours to charge completely.

Tecno also mentions the AI Smart Charge feature on Camon 20 Premier. Like QNOVO, it uses an optimized overnight charging process to gradually charge the battery to a certain point and then wait until you wake up to push in a full charge. It's a great feature that should help extend the battery's life.

Speakers

The Camon 20 Premier has a hybrid stereo speaker system that uses an over-the-ear speaker as the second channel, which is familiar with phones at this price point. As we said, Tecno has gone the extra mile to ensure earphone sound output is better by adding a speaker grill to the top bezel, but the sound system could be better.

The dedicated bottom speaker is way louder and has a bigger soundstage than the earpiece, but it sounds better than other speakers. Our tests gave it a good "GOOD" for loudness, but it's not as loud as some competitors.

Even at total volume, the audio output is clean and distortion-free. The mid-range and high-end sound great, and the bass is almost nonexistent, but that's to be expected. There's a DTS sound optimizer with just a few settings and a basic equalization, which does the job but could be more detailed. In addition to DTS, you can also use Hi-Res Audio and High-Res Audio.

HiOS 13 Runs on Top of Android 13.

Tecno has been working on its skin for a while, and it's been good. The Camon 20 Premier has HiOS 13 installed, the same as Android 13, but it's been updated with a new version number. The user experience has mostly stayed the same, but the bloat and ads that come with it are gone.

However, there are few pre-installed apps and tools. Tecno continues to build and distribute its suite of apps to cover essential functions. You'll get an in-built movie player, gallery, and app store, depending on your count. It's still annoying, but we understand where Tecno's coming from. You can turn off the annoying alerts that third-party apps send you from inside the annoying app or in the Notification settings. The Camon 20 Premier uses fingerprint and facial recognition to enter the device. There are also a few animations for the in-built fingerprint scanner.

The Camon 20 Premier has an OLED display, so you don't have to worry about it always staying on. The lock screen has the camera and flashlight shortcuts, but if you'd like to see something else when you open the phone, Tecno has a cover display option for the lock screen. After that, you'll see a standard home screen UI. You'll find cards with widgets for news, weather, quotes, and apps on the left-hand pane called the Zero screen. To turn off the screen, go to 'Desktop settings.'

You can open the app folder by swiping up from the bottom or using the extensive orange A-Z at the bottom. HiOS lets you use themes, so there's a particular shop for that. Tecno models have had some cool features for a long time, and they've kept them in the newer models. This includes the options, metrics, and game mode parental controls. Plus, there's a Smart panel with shortcuts to slide from side to side.

Social Turbo is fantastic - it's like a WhatsApp enhancer, and you can change your voice, make your face look better during video calls, record WhatsApp chats, and even read messages without them being marked as read.

Tecno's virtual RAM is called MemFusion, the same as the 8GB physical RAM chips. You can get up to 16GB if you add an extra 8GB of MemFusion, but the default is 5 GB.

Benchmarks and Performance

Tecno Camon 20 Premier is powered by the Mediatek 8050 chipset, a new 6nm chip introduced in May. Currently, there are only three devices in our database with the chip. However, the chip is familiar, as it is similar in many ways to the Mediatek 1200 and 1300.

Therefore, it should run the same. The chip comprises four fast Cortex-A78 cores, four efficient Cortex-A55 cores, and one Super Core. Each of the four cores operates at a maximum of 3GHz, and three cores operate at a maximum of 2.6GHz. The chip also has a high-performance Mali-G76 MC9 GPU 512 GB of fixed storage, and 8 GB of physical RAM.

We'll need to run GeekBench and some CPU tests to get started. The new 8050 performs the same as the previous 1200 and 1300 chips, which is how we expected. We could also use the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 and Google's first Tensor chip for good measure. We can get a good idea of the raw performance of the 8050. It won't blow anyone away, but it's competitive, especially for your pay.

AnTuTu 9

The new Dimensity 8050, as was already noted, has many hardware characteristics with the Dimensity 1200 and 1300. The approximate performance numbers provided by the Mali-G77 MC9 GPU are in the expected range. That's fantastic to see, as it shows that the GPU drivers are already developed and that Tecno is effectively utilizing the available hardware.

The Camon 20 Premier is likewise performing admirably in this regard, even though it isn't dominating any graphics test rankings. Notably, more powerful GPU combinations are available on the Dimensity 8000 and 9000 series processors than on the Dimensity 8050. The original and G2 Google Tensor processors and the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 operate similarly.

GFXBench (on-screen) and GFXBench (off-screen)

Once again, it's important to mention that two of the most important competitors are the Camon 20 Premier, the Samsung Galaxy A54, and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro. The Realme 11 pro+, which is powered by the similar brand-new density 7050

3DMark is the last thing you need to worry about. 3DMark usually gives you a much clearer visual representation of what your device can do regarding graphics. It's reliable because it tests off-screen renderings, so you don't have to worry too much about it. There aren't any big surprises here.

The Camo 20 Premier does the same as the other Dimensity 1200s and 1300s, which is what you'd expect it to do. Even though the Camo 20 Premier is doing pretty well in this regard, there are more powerful GPU phones for the same price.

3DMark (1440p offscreen)

The Dimensity 8058 within the Camon 20 Premier operates coolly and under minimal thermal stress. It is a significant benefit that the device doesn't grow excessively hot to the touch, only moderately. The phone has a large 5515 mm2 graphene layer, a 2224 mm2 vapor chamber, and high thermal conductivity polymer gel, which suggests that Tecno gave cooling particular consideration.

The performance of the Camon 20 Premier declines well and gradually over time without any significant spikes or decreases, and it exhibits decent thermal-throttling behavior. However, it is essential to note that the phone significantly loses performance with time.

Technico Camon 20 Premier has sufficient performance to ensure a seamless user experience. It performed flawlessly in all tasks assigned to it, including demanding games. Performance-wise, the Camon 20 Premier is good, though it does not rank highly on any lists.

Brand-new Triple Camera

Tecno Camon 20 Premier Review

The camera experience has always been given more attention on camon devices. One might even argue that the series "Cam-ON" makes this clear. There is no exception with the Camon 20 Premier. It starts with the primary camera.

It is built on a rather sizable 50MP Samsung s5kgnx sensor concealed behind an f/1.8 lens. The "x" suffix the phone gives at the end indicates that the sensor might be either a GN3 or GN5. They are both 1/1.56" sensors with 1.0 m pixels each. While it is difficult to identify which of the two Tecno phones was used, we believe it was the newer Samsung GN5.

In addition, the primary camera has laser focusing and three-axis sensor-shift stabilization. The 108MP ultrawide on the Camon 20 Premier is more remarkable than the reasonably good primary camera. It is concealed behind an f/2.2 lens. After digging inside the phone, the ultrawide sensor appears to be based on a Samsung s5khm6sxwide sensor.

It is commonly referred to as the ISOCELL HM6. It has 0.64 m pixels on a 1/1.67" non-a-pixel ISOCELL 2.0 sensor. The Camon 20 Premier's ultrawide has autofocus and makes use of the laser autofocus module. Because of this, it may also function as a powerful macro camera.

An additional depth sensor with a 2MP resolution and an f/2.4 aperture serves as the phone's third and last camera on the back. Its sensor is a GalaxyCore gc02m1. Nothing very unique.

The phone boasts a substantial 32MP front-facing camera. A relatively dark f/2.5 lens conceals it. The Samsung s5kgd2sp sensor is based. The Tecno Camon 19 Pro also uses this sensor. It has 0.8 m pixels and a tetra pixel layout on a 1/2.8" sensor. The Camon 20 Premier's selfie, unfortunately, lacks autofocus. At least a few hidden LEDs can be used as fill light for your nighttime selfies.

The camera application on the Camon 20 Premier could be more spectacular. A notable and unusual element is the presence of actual focus points that may be seen in the viewfinder. The UI is also standard, with quick toggles on one end and modes on the other. The Camon 20 Premier includes high-resolution toggles for its primary camera and ultrawide (50MP and 108MP, respectively). It is one feature that sets it apart from other cameras.

Expectedly, the Camon 20 Premier has a Pro mode. It is also rather typical. It includes shutter speed (1/1500s - 30s), ISO (100 - 6400), white balance (2000K - 9000K), autofocus, and metering mode in addition to exposure compensation (-2 - +2). Unfortunately, no RAW mode or other sophisticated features like a histogram exist.

Quality of Daylight Photos

Tecno Camon 20 Premier Review

Approximately 12MP still images may be captured by the Camon 20 Premier's primary camera by default. These have many fine details, outstanding color contrast, and a crisp appearance.

Although the rendering of the foliage and tiny details is typically pleasing, part of it is due to added sharpening, which is a little severe. However, we wouldn't claim that the images are too sharpened. We also have one more issue with the dynamic range. Dark environments can cause details to be lost and distorted.

You can set the primary camera to capture images at its maximum 50MP resolution, and if you don't mind longer capture times and larger files, it's worth it. Photos taken at 50MP show significantly more fine detail than those at 12MP. With significantly less editing and sharpening, they also appear much more natural.

Colors appear slightly subdued compared to standard 12MP images, but it's not a big concern.

The Camon 20 Premier's primary camera produces some stunning portrait photos. These have decent skin texture representation, tremendous and realistic skin tones, and sharpness with lots of detail. Both subject separation and detection are rather good, while the background blur is of high quality.

Additionally, portrait mode performs admirably with non-human subjects. The camera quickly captures those.

Despite not having a separate telephoto lens, the Camon 20 Premier nevertheless features a 2x zoom option for digitally cropping images from the primary camera. These photographs are of a high grade that is comparable to 1x photographs. We have very few complaints other than the little increase in noise in the frame.

The 108MP ultrawide camera will now be discussed. It takes pictures with a resolution that is less than 12MP by default. These photos are decent. While it is not as high as the primary camera's, the resolved detail level is still excellent for an ultrawide. Dynamic range and contrast are both advantageous. Edge softness and barrel distortion close to the edges are nearly nonexistent. It is beneficial that ultrawide photos are less forcefully sharpened than those taken with the primary camera.

Colors frequently appear a little too warm for our preferences. The frame has been given a light yellow color. Distinct enough from the color representation from the primary camera. However, this is a minor deal-breaker.

The ultrawide camera has a maximum resolution of 108MP. However, we advise against doing such. The high-res option doesn't provide glaring advantages over the ordinary one, and the enormous file sizes are, actually, in terms of resolved detail, which, when pixel-peeping, could be better on average. These images also have a little more noise.

The ultrawide camera has another trick in its sleeve thanks to autofocusing; it can also function exceptionally effectively as a close-up/macro camera. These pictures taken with the Camon 20 Premier are excellent. The frame has lots of detail and sufficient resolution for unlimited zooming. Both subject recognition and focus are excellent. We adore how the bokeh background appears to be in nature.

One of the best parts of using a camera is close-ups. The 32MP selfie photographs taken by the Camon 20 Premier's selfie camera result in larger file sizes. Given that the selfie camera's Quad-Bayer sensor should, by default, create 8MP images, this option is odd. However, selfies appear fantastic since they have details, realistic skin tones, and textures. The colors also look fantastic.

Although focusing on the selfie camera would have been ideal, the focal plane is already vast and forgiving. The 8MP resolution of self-portraits is as expected from the sensor. Regarding skin tones and texture, these selfies are comparable to standard selfies. Although subject separation and detection aren't always flawless, they are more than enough. The backdrop blur has a good level of quality.

Quality of the Video

Tecno Camon 20 Premier Review

The Tecno Camon 20 Premier's primary and ultrawide cameras can capture video at up to 4K 30 frames per second. There is a restriction on the 1440p selfie camera. The video is stored in an MP4 container with a stereo 48 kHz AAC audio stream and a typical H.264/AVC video stream at a bandwidth of about 50Mbps for the primary and ultrawide and 20Mbps for the selfie.

The primary camera produces excellent 4K footage with unique colors, contrast, and remarkable detail. The frame rate is steady and smooth. Sincerity be told, our only criticism is that the dynamic range might be more comprehensive.

The ultrawide camera can also record 4K exact and crystal-clear video. Both the colors and the detail are reasonably excellent. There is a distinct yellow tint compared to the primary camera, much like still photographs.

Even so, they are among the best ultrawide 4K videos we've seen, especially for the price range. Even though they are limited to 1440p, selfie videos are attractive—plenty of detail and beautiful, natural hues. Skin tones and texture are attractive.

The Camon 20 Premier contains a feature called Ultra Steady for stability. EIS is what operates largely consistently on all cameras. Shakes and bumps are effectively smoothed out by it. However, you are only allowed to use 1080p resolution, significantly reducing the detail in the frame.

Low-light Camera Quality

Tecno Camon 20 Premier Review

The Camon 20 Premier's primary camera produces decent low-light images. These are detailed and have excellent, accurate colors. Dark regions offer a remarkable resolution, and the dynamic range isn't that awful, either.

On the other hand, the phone struggles to handle light sources effectively, and some noise is audible, especially in the darkest portions of the frame.

The scene identification feature, displayed by a "moon symbol" in the camera user interface, indicates that the Canon 20 Premier does some automated low-light optimization. In addition, the phone's camera offers a "Super night" option. The time it takes to snap a picture is between two and three seconds, which is not the fastest we've seen but also not the slowest.

The results could be more consistent. On the plus side, night mode sharpens the photos, although it's often false and harsh. Dark areas have less noise which is good, but it only sometimes means more detail. Light sources are handled much better in Night mode.

These pictures have too much contrast, and the colors don't seem as natural as in regular pictures. Overall, night-mode photographs appear to be darker.

It is important to note that the Camon 20 Premier features a compelling rear LED flash array outside of Night mode. For close-range shooting, you can rely on it.

The primary camera's 2x zoom images in low light are extremely equivalent to 1x images taken usually. They are somewhat louder and softer, but only a little.

A similar result can also be seen in these pictures in night mode. Although we don't necessarily appreciate the aggressive sharpening, excessive contrast, or darker appearance, we welcome better handling of light sources.

The ultrawide camera performs passably well in dim lighting but not particularly well. It can usually focus correctly, which is encouraging because autofocusing ultrawide is always a worry. The photos it takes daily are colorful and detailed.

The ultrawide's night mode is perhaps best characterized as aggressive. Everything is unnaturally sharpened, and contrast is set far too high. There is so much processing done in a heavy-handed manner that part of the original detail is gone.

Light sources are managed and confined much better, which is a positive.

The 32MP selfie camera does OK in low light but is not very impressive. Although there is a fair amount of detail, the face's texture could be more apparent. The colors are OK, but the skin tones might be slightly more realistic.

The selfie has a night mode option as well. Surprisingly, the selfie's Night mode provides 8MP images, as this quad-bayer camera should have done in the first place. It provides more detail, with more of the skin's texture and natural skin tones.

It sharpens the image pretty severely and with much contrast, much like on the rear cameras. It's undoubtedly a unique appearance, but one that you could like.

With two surprisingly strong selfie LED lights on the front of the smartphone, the Camon 20 Premier also has one more trick up its sleeve for taking selfies in low light. Utilizing them offers a fantastic compromise between standard and nighttime selfies. More realistic skin tones, better skin texture, and more detail are present.

Without using harsh oversharpening or excessive contrast, all of this is possible. Unlike night mode, you do still, regrettably, receive enormous 32MP selfies.

The primary camera can record 4K low-light footage quite well. These have excellent sharpness, detail, dynamic solid range, and lovely, organic colors.

The results of shooting video in the 2x zoom setting are excellent and similar. The frame has a little more noise, but nothing is seriously distracting.

In low light, the ultrawide camera performs admirably. Although not nearly as lovely as on the primary camera, detail is still rather outstanding for an ultrawide. Although the dynamic range is not as vast, it is still fairly impressive. Although not excessive, there is some noise in the frame. The absence of focus suggestions was also a plus.

Conclusion

The Tecno Camon 20 Premier is a highly complete device in every way. Despite a competitive market filled with high-quality products, it succeeds in winning these honors. The intriguing camera configuration is among the highlights of our time with the Camon 20 Premier if we choose any. It provides excellent all-around performance and is highly dependable and adaptable.

Additionally, the high-resolution 108MP autofocusing ultrawide is a genuine delight in and of itself, performing admirably at its primary task and producing some fantastic results if you enjoy taking macro photos.

There is no denying that the Camon 20 Premier is a desirable and unusual gadget. It also has a solid, well-built feel. The considerable display's excellent color fidelity and capable, if imperfect, handling of high refresh rates up to 120Hz make it a delight to use inside. You get an excellent multimedia experience from the phone when combined with the great stereo speaker system.

Additionally, the device's general performance and battery life are reliable. The Camon 20 Premier functions flawlessly, and we value the additional choices provided by HiOS 13, especially the tiny additions like AI Smart Charge for longer battery life.

Although it is a relatively small list, the Camon 20 Premier's drawbacks may be significant to many potential customers. We sincerely wish the phone had a recognized degree of ingress protection. Additionally, Tecno needs to mention the display surface's protection, giving us the impression that it could be more durable. Even though we enjoy using the display within, it lacks outside, especially in the sun. A slight increase in brightness would have made a big difference.
