Vani Jayaram is a prominent Indian female playback singer.

She was born on November 30, 1945 in Tamil Nadu. With all her talent, she has thrice won the National Film Awards for Best Female Singer.

She is also acclaimed for her in-depth knowledge of both forms of Indian classical music: Carnatic and Hindustani.

She has sung over 8000 songs for films in 14 distinct languages, encompassing, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Gujrati, and Hindi.

Vani Jayaram, hailing from a family of musicians in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, was born to Padmavathi, a discipline of the renowned veena exponent Ranga Ranumaja Iyengar.

Kadaloor Sreenivasa Iyengar, the music teacher of Vani's sister, was impressed by her keen observational skills and quick grasp of musical concepts.

At the tender age of 5, she received instruction in some Dikshitar kritis. Growing up as the fifth daughter among six daughters and three sons, she harbored a secret desire for a career in film playback singing. Considered a child prodigy, she gained recognition for her ability to identify various ragas in Indian classical music even before turning 5.

Her vocal talents were first showcased on All India Radio Madras when she was just 8 years old.

Vani Jayaram studied carnatic music under the tuitions of gudalur srinivasa iyengar TR balasubramanian and RS Mani. Her Hindustani classical music guru was ustad Abdul Rehman Khan.
