Sony WF-XB700 Review: Perfect Sound, Weird Design

The WF-XB700 was released in India, a brand-new, utterly wireless product from Sony. The new headphones are an excellent price for actual wireless earbuds of this kind. Extra bass is a vital feature of the Sony WF-XB700 true wireless headphones, which also have a significant, eye-catching appearance and a long battery life.

Sony WF-XB700 Review: Perfect Sound, Weird Design

They are a competitor in the market for truly wireless in-ear headphones even though they are less recognized than products like Apple's AirPods. I have used these earbuds to observe their function in real-world situations while checking their appearance, functionality, audio quality, and price.

Sony WF-XB700 Specifications

  • IPX4-rated wireless earphones
  • Controllers with manual buttons
  • More bass
  • 9 hours of battery life, 18 hours when using the charging case
  • Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4 GHz band, 8.0 grams per bud
  • Cover for charging with USB-C
  • Blue and black color

1. Design and Build

Sony WF-XB700 Review: Perfect Sound, Weird Design

The Sony WF-XB700 is available in two colors black and dark blue. The outside of the headphones is constructed of plastic and has an oval shape that resembles the shape of the ear. Considering everything, these in-ear buds are fairly pleasant; however, their appearance is elaborated. Remember that the outside is vast and a bit tougher to conceal if you want a more straightforward appearance.

They are also heavier than other competitors at 8 grams per bud, but not in a bothersome manner. Each bud has manual button controls on the rim to link the headphones, adjust the volume, skip songs, and pause or play your audio. Although there are no touch pads, pressing the buttons doesn't hurt your ears.

A transparent casing that matches the color of the earbuds is included with the Sony WF-XB700. A short USB cord is included in the packaging, and there is a USB-C connector for charging on the bottom. You may charge it with any other standard USB cable if you need something longer.

2. Sound Quality

The Sony WF-XB700 earbuds have excellent bass when it comes to audio quality. The impact of these in-ear buds will be more noticeable if you're listening to more intense music, like dubstep, rock, or electronic music. Because of this and the secure fit, they are the perfect option for utilizing while exercising. When listening to these tracks at higher volume levels, the audio is clear and detailed, but it doesn't match up when watching YouTube videos or podcasts.

However, you can only turn it down if the bass fits what you're listening to. The music is still clearly audible. Of course, if you want something more affluent in the mids and highs - or just more balanced - you should look at a pair of earbuds with customizable settings, such as the Samsung Galaxy Buds+.

The Sony WF-XB700 features a 12mm driver unit with a 20-20,000 Hz frequency range. SBC and AAC are the only codecs supported by these earbuds, which is a little drawback but doesn't affect the audio quality much because it is still decent.

3. Fit and Comfort

When I took the XB700 out of their packaging, I wasn't sure how well they would fit in my ear or how comfortable they would be. Fortunately, they are rather good at both. When you look at its design, you wouldn't assume it would be comfortable in your ear. Most of the time, it is not a good idea for earphones to weigh the extreme edges.

Nevertheless, the XB700 does it in some way. They do not feel heavy or excessively tight on the ear, even after several hours of wearing them. Those are beautiful things because I didn't want to take these earbuds off when I had them on. The fit has a few tiny problems. Even though they won't come out of your ears while using them usually, you might need to re-insert them sometimes if you're engaging in physical activity like a dancing exercise.

4. Specifications & Features

Sony WF-XB700 Review: Perfect Sound, Weird Design

The Sony WF-XB700 earbuds may use to listen to music, make calls, and link with Siri or Google Assistant. You can operate your phone instead of the handset using the headset mic. There were a few minor problems here and there when I first paired using a regular Bluetooth connection.

The battery life on these buds is quite excellent. You obtain nearly nine hours of playtime outside the case, and that rises to almost eighteen hours within the case. I could use these earbuds for a day and a half without the battery level dipping below 20%.

The charging period for the case is about two and a half hours, which is reasonable given the amount of time you may use them. A ten-minute charge will provide around an hour of playback if you only have a little time. The Sony WF-XB700 earphones do not have active noise cancellation. However, this is to anticipate as this capability is only available on wireless earbuds that cost more.

However, even with more bass-heavy and pounding songs, the sound quality you receive is still sufficient to drown out outside sounds. Surprisingly, there isn't an accompanying app with the buds when so many competitors do. It also implies that, except for setting up your PC's volume settings, you have no manual control over the sound output on these devices.

5. Connectivity

Bluetooth 5.0 is a feature that may be considered standard at this price point for the Sony XB700 genuinely wireless earbuds. Additionally, as I already indicated, pairing the earbuds is also simple. They may also utilize separately. The earphones may remove from the case and found in your phone's Bluetooth settings by checking there.

The two earbuds are connected to your smartphone with only a tap, allowing you to start listening immediately, and the sound quality is excellent. However, it's disappointing that the XB700 can only play SBC and AAC codecs. I preferred aptX support here.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Long-lasting battery
  • Outstanding sound quality
  • Building quality is excellent
  • Useful and comfortable

Cons

  • The design seems bulky.
  • Not supporting aptX
  • Not detecting wear

Conclusion

If you're looking for comfortable, accurately calibrated bass levels, and long-lasting, totally wireless earphones, the Sony WF-XB700 headphones are unquestionably a desirable alternative.

They are also an excellent selection if you're looking for headphones to go with your exercises, mainly because they have an IP rating that allows you to use them outside in any weather.

It's disappointing that there isn't an app to customize the sound further because they are a touch on the large side of design. However, at the amount they are asking right now, compromises like these are reasonable.
