BYD ATTO 3 Review

Build Your Dreams, often known as BYD, is different from your typical Chinese EV manufacturer. This firm has a prominent position at the forefront of electric vehicle technology and has made significant technological, financial, and intellectual investments in the EV industry. It manufactures the Blade, which is regarded as the world's safest and most technologically sophisticated lithium-ion battery. It is an impressive accomplishment.

Even Tesla, which takes pride in its battery technology, is expected to employ BYD's Blade cells in its Model Y, which is manufactured in Germany. Additionally, it is one of the world's biggest makers of lithium-ion batteries. Also familiar with India is the corporation.

The business has been operating here for the past 15 years, specializing in chargers, solar panels, electric buses, vehicles, forklifts, and battery energy storage. The Atto 3 is BYD's second vehicle to be sold in India, where it currently has roughly 20 dealers spread across key cities.

The Exterior Design of BYD Atto 3

BYD ATTO 3 Review

The BYD Atto 3 is a distinctive Chinese vehicle that blends a fast SUV and a crossover in its exterior design. The term "attosecond," referring to the tiny fraction of a second, is where the name "Atto" of the vehicle originated. The Atto 3 has a flat, athletic snout, a chrome band connecting the headlights, and blue components in the lamps. The "Dragon Face 3.0" design language includes a reptilian snout, a tight roofline, and muscular flanks. The back is completed with connected taillights.

The manufacturer name Build Your Dreams appears in chrome beneath the light bar, lending the automobile a feeling of uniqueness. The rear has an attractive spoiler and a metallic fish scale pattern on the "C" pillar. The unusual five-spoke design functions effectively, and the metals utilized were wisely chosen. The Atto 3 is longer and has a longer wheelbase than competitors like the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona (4,323 mm and 4,180 mm, respectively).

Platform, Battery, and Range of the BYD Atto 3

BYD ATTO 3 Review

The new e-Platform 3.0 from BYD, which has an eight-in-one electric powertrain with a high efficiency of 97.5 percent, powers the Atto 3. The 800V system provides a power boost option and merges hardware and software for enhanced performance. The blade cells are arranged in a honeycomb pattern to increase battery strength and serve as a chassis structural component.

With a driving range of 521 kilometers and a 0-100 kph speed of 7.3 seconds, the Atto 3 boasts a 60.48 kWh battery pack. Customers may choose between a 3 kW AC portable charging box and a 7 kW AC home charger from BYD. The disc brakes, independent suspension, and 18-inch alloy wheels with 215-section and 55-profile tires are standard on the front-wheel-drive Atto 3.

BYD Blade Battery

BYD ATTO 3 Review

Lithium-ion phosphate (LFP): BYD is one of the market leaders in the world when it comes to LFP batteries. The best LFP battery that BYD offers is the Blade. It is because of the structure of the battery and the way the cells are arranged in the battery. LFP technology increases the volumetric cell density by 50%, and the cooling system does not need to be installed, saving space.

The success of the Blade battery in the EV industry's most demanding battery test is well known. One of these tests is the "nail penetration" test, in which a long nail is driven directly through the battery, and the Blade battery passes this test with flying colors.

The surface temperature of the Blade battery barely exceeded 60°C during a short circuit simulation, and there was no smoke or flames. The battery can't experience thermal runaway and uncontrolled burning at these temperatures.

According to the company, regular lithium-ion batteries would burn severely at temperatures higher than 500degC in the same conditions. So, even if these batteries are severely damaged, cars built with the Blade battery are expected to be safer.

The battery was also tested in severe tests, such as burning, crushing, bending, and heating at 300°C in a furnace. The battery had an overcharge of 260 percent. There was no fire or explosion in any of these tests.

BYD Atto 3's Interior and Characteristics

BYD ATTO 3 Review

The BYD Atto 3 is a strange and unique car made by a German-Japanese design firm. The door pads have bass guitar strings, and the dashboard is white with a 'duvet' running across it. The dashboard has a 12.8-inch touchscreen that rotates with the press of a button, but some of the menus look like they are straight out of Tesla.

A dash cam built-in is excellent, with a 360-degree view. The big center console and top give the cabin a long-lasting look. It is easy to sit comfortably in the sport bucket seats, which are too wide for the interior, but they provide plenty of support for your back and thighs. The backseat is spacious, with a large sunroof and plenty of leg and shoulder room.

The floor is level, which makes the space feel open, but the battery underneath can be uncomfortable. It is easy to get in and out of the backseat with USB ports and vents. The Atto 3 is a cube-shaped car with a cube shell and a 440-liter boot. Unfortunately, it only has one puncture repair kit, no spare tire, and a motorized tailgate. It also has a power front driver and passenger seat, LED ambient lighting, and an oversized center console and dash for a long-lasting look.

In addition to the voice assistant and the Spotify app, the vehicle has a 360-degree camera, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), ESC (Electronic Stability Control), traction control, and hill descent control. It also has seven airbags (including one in the center) and ADAS (Front and Rear Collision Warning), Lane-keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Automatic Emergency Braking.

BYD Atto 3's Utilizing, Riding, and Performance

BYD ATTO 3 Review

Electric cars are silent, well-insulated, and smooth to drive. The Atto 3's suspension flexes over bumps and rough terrain, and it's generally smooth to drive. It's steady at high speeds and responds well to minimal steering wheel movement.

The Atto 3 has a relaxed, enjoyable driving style. When you put more power behind the wheel, the accelerator responds slowly but is more powerful and energetic. Acceleration is also smooth and polite; at higher speeds, it's quick to reach 0-100kph (7.3 seconds).

It's easy to turn the steering wheel, the accelerator is well-spaced, and the brakes have a decent feel. It's easy to use. But it wants to be pushed relatively and is not built to take advantage of corners. Going too hard could make the steering feel out of whack, so it's best to stick to a laid-back driving experience. There are some driver modes and region options, but they could be more helpful, and it's hard to tell one from the other.

Price of BYD Atto 3

BYD ATTO 3 Review

The Atto 3, however, comes at a hefty price tag of Rs 33,9 lakh. Compared to its competitors, which offer almost the same amount of electric cars for a much lower price, this could limit Atto 3's appeal. However, if you want refined, polished driving dynamics and a sense of distinctive flair, then the Atto 3 might be the EV you're after.

Conclusion

There is a lot to love about BYD's Atto 3: it has a funky interior, is easy to drive, and is comfortable to sit in. It has a large, easy-to-use touchscreen that's well-configured and has a lot of safety and tech built-in. It also has decent speed and a smooth ride, plus it's packed with driver-assistance tech. Then there is the Blade, BYD's proprietary battery; it's one of the best and safest on the market, and it provides a healthy 521km (in practice, expect at least 400km).
