Apple iPhone 14 Review

Apple Inc. designed, produced, and marketed the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus (also known as the iPhone 14+). They are the iPhone's sixteenth and latest versions, succeeding the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini. They were introduced with the most costly iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max flagships on September 7, 2022, at Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, California. The 6.1-inch (15-cm) and 6.7-inch (17-cm) displays, improved rear-facing cameras, and satellite connection on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus allow users to contact emergency services outside of Wi-Fi or cellular network coverage.

On September 16, 2022, and October 7, 2022, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus came on sale for $799 and $899 accordingly with iOS 16. On September 9, 2022, pre-orders for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus opened. The iPhone 14 lacks a "Mini" design, as the iPhone 13 Mini had. Apple has instead launched the iPhone 14 Plus, a larger-sized edition of the iPhone 14. Since the 2017 launch of the iPhone 8 Plus, Apple has not produced an iPhone in the Plus model. The first iPhone models that have done so following the CDMA version of the iPhone 4 are the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus models, in addition to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max versions, which were all sold in the United States without actual SIM cards.

History

The iPhone 14 was rumored to sport 6.1-inch and 5.4-inch displays. However, no smaller display option existed when the iPhone 14 was released. This might result from the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 13 Mini's weak sales. Instead, the lower-priced iPhone 14 series now includes a more effective 6.7-inch display size option.

The new 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus has been named "iPhone 14 Plus" instead of "iPhone 14 Max," as previous rumors predicted. On September 7, 2022, a virtual press conference was held in Apple Park in Cupertino, California, to officially announce the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Plus, Apple Watch Series 8, iPhone 14 Pro Max, AirPods Pro (2nd generation), and a change to Apple Fitness+. This event was part of Apple's "Far Out" initiative. Apple started taking pre-orders for the iPhone 14 on September 9, and open sales for the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus will start on September 16 and October 7.

Design

The back cover for the iPhone 14 Plus is in blue; the protruding camera on Apple's iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus has been heavily criticized. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are similar to the iPhone 13, except for the lack of an actual SIM tray in the US variants. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have six distinct color options, including red, midnight, starlight, yellow, blue, and purple. Purple has replaced Pink as the new color for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini.

Specifications of Apple iPhone 14

Hardware

Three storage options are available for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus those are 128, 256, and 512 GB. Both versions contain 6 GB of RAM, up from 4 GB in the preceding iPhone 13 and 13 mini models. The IP68 dust and water resistance rating of the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus is the same as that of its predecessors.

Chipset

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus use the 5-nanometer A15 Bionic system on a chip, whereas the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max use the A16 Bionic. The iPhone 14's A15 chip includes a 6-core CPU, a 5-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine. It is the same A15 seen in last year's iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, which have more memory and an extra GPU core than the A15 found in non-Pro iPhone 13 models. The iPhone 14 became the first flagship model that utilized the same chip as the iPhone 3G in 2008. According to Mitchell Clark of The Verge, the unaltered chip seeks to keep costs low during the ongoing chip shortage and inflation hike. Clark also noted that the A15 "still beats the most recent chips like Qualcomm and Google in most benchmarks," even though the older technology may result in fewer updates for the iPhone 14, as was the case with the iPhone 5C in 2013.

Display

The iPhone 14 comes with a 6.1-inch (155 mm) Super Retina XDR OLED display having a feature of 2532 1170 pixels, a refresh rate of 60 Hz, and a pixel density of about 460 PPI. The same technology is utilized in the iPhone 14 Plus, which has a pixel density of around 458 PPI and a 6.7-inch (170 mm) display with a resolution of 2778 1284 pixels. Both models have a maximum brightness of 1200 nits and a maximum brightness of 800 nits.

Cameras

Similar to the iPhone 13, the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus have two cameras on the front (12MP f/1.9) and two on the rear (12MP f/1.5) and ultra-wide (12MP f/2.4), with the wide- and front-facing cameras having a faster aperture. The front-facing camera now does auto-focusing for the first time. Smart HDR 4, Apple's most recent computational photography engine, is used in the cameras. Users can also choose between numerous picture styles during capture, such as rich contrast, vibrant, calm, and warm.

According to Apple, this is separate from a filter since it intelligently works with the system for image processing during capture to apply local modifications to an image, and the effects are built into the photos as compared to filters which may be erased after applying. Cinematic Mode is included in the camera app and allows users to use software algorithms to alternate focus between subjects and achieve (simulate) shallow depth of field. It functions in 4K at 30 frames per second on both the wide and front-facing cameras.

Battery

The battery life of the iPhone 14 is greater than that of the iPhone 13. According to Apple, the 3,279 mAh battery in the iPhone 14 can support up to 20 hours of video performing, 16 hours of streaming video playback, and 80 hours of audio playback. The battery life of the iPhone 13's (3,240 mAh) predecessor is up to 19 hours of video performing, 15 hours of video streaming, and 75 hours of audio playback. The battery life of the iPhone 14 Plus (4,325 mAh) model can last up to 26 hours.

Software

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus default shipped with iOS 16. The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus will be functional with iOS 17, introduced during Apple's WWDC 2023 event and available to the general public in the fall of 2023.

Review of Apple iPhone 14

With updated cameras, a faster A15 Bionic CPU, and an Action mode for video capture, the iPhone 14 is an outstanding option for buying. We'd choose a telephoto zoom and a 120Hz display at this price. Because of its larger screen and strong battery, several users prefer the iPhone 14 Plus. The iPhone 14 is still a solid option if you want a powerful flagship with a pocket-friendly design. It has a better camera system that operates exceptionally well in low-light modes and a faster, more precise TrueDepth camera with autofocus.

A new Action mode with ultra-stable video is now available in the video section. It also has helpful safety features like crash recognition and Emergency SOS through the satellite. The iPhone is undoubtedly one of the best iPhones and deserves to be on the list of best phones. The basic iPhone 14 is now available, with only the usual wait between ordering and receiving. Nonetheless, demand for the Pro models is exceptionally high, and Apple is trying to keep up by temporarily suspending average iPhone 14 production.

Advantages of Apple iPhone 14

  • Excellent cameras
  • Vibrant display
  • Impressive Action mode video
  • Fast A15 Bionic performance

Disadvantages of Apple iPhone 14

  • Only a 60Hz refresh rate
  • No optical zoom
  • Lack of a SIM card slot

Conclusion

The iPhone 14 is a minor upgrade over the iPhone 13. The iPhone 14 has one more core added to the GPU (five cores) processor, e-SIM technology, longer battery life, and new safety features from Apple, such as a satellite connection for emergency communications and crash identification. Nevertheless, the base iPhone 14 is comparable to last year's iPhone 13. It has the same A15 Bionic chip as the iPhone 13, and the primary and ultrawide cameras are 12 megapixels (albeit the primary camera has a slightly larger aperture). The iPhone 14, just like the iPhone 13, will be available in 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB versions and begins at the same price before any carrier incentives. The iPhone 13 Mini is no longer in production. If you want a longer battery life and a larger display, you should wait for the iPhone 14 Plus, but the iPhone 14 is an excellent and safe choice.
