Samsung Galaxy M30s ReviewThe Galaxy M series was launched by Samsung in India earlier this year to better compete with the Chinese smartphone manufacturer in the mid-range market. One of the popular models in the collection from the South Korean manufacturer was the Samsung Galaxy M30. 
Now, the manufacturer has released the Samsung Galaxy M30s, a second-generation version of a comparable smartphone with better hardware and camera specifications but a very similar design to its predecessor. Let's find out whether this is the case and whether the smartphone is strong enough to compete with brands like Realme and Xiaomi. Inside the Box
Samsung Galaxy M30s Specifications
Build and DesignThe Samsung Galaxy M30s has an Infinity-U display and a design similar to the Galaxy M30. It has relatively narrow side bezels, but the chin is noticeably thicker. The volume control and power buttons are situated on the right side, while the SIM card slot is situated on the left. On the bottom of the phone, there is a USB Type-C connector, an Audio Input Jack (3.5mm), a Microphone, and a Speaker. The top of the phone is empty except for the Secondary Microphone. On the back of the device, you'll find a rectangular housing in the top-left corner with a triple camera setup. The back also includes a fingerprint sensor positioned in the top center, which is easily accessible. The smartphone is available in Opal Black color, Sapphire Blue color, and Pearl White color. The Sapphire Blue variant has a gradient finish at the back, which gives it a unique look, but it may appeal to only some. If you're looking for a more classic look, you can choose between Black or White. Upon holding the Galaxy M30s in your hands, you may notice that the manufacturer used a lower-quality plastic material; it gives the smartphone a cheaper feel and could benefit from a more premium appearance, especially when combined with the chosen color. DisplayIn terms of the display, the smartphone has a 6.4-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. The screen has an aspect ratio of 20:9 and the pixel density is 411 pixels per inch. The fact that businesses are already providing Super AMOLED screens in this price range is promising. The Samsung Galaxy M30s's display is quite impressive because to the Super AMOLED panel. Samsung phones feature rather oversaturated screens, but they make the colors stand out and provide an immersive experience. However, we weren't too impressed with the brightness level since it's below average compared to the competition. If you want to view text in sunlight, you should cover the display, even though it's not too difficult to see. The display is impressive for its price range and has excellent color reproduction. However, the phone's peak brightness could be better, but it's still okay. Software and PerformanceThe Samsung Galaxy M30s has a new Exynos 9611 chipset from the manufacturer. It includes four Cortex A53 cores with a 1.7GHz clock speed and four Cortex A73 cores with a 2.3GHz clock speed. This processor is suitable for mid-range devices but may not be the fastest. When it comes to routine duties, the smartphone is perfect. Switching between programs and multitasking also functions without any delay or slowness. While 4 GB RAM is plenty for everyday use, if you want to retain the device for a few years, you might choose the 6 GB RAM option. We noticed occasional frame drops while playing games like PUBG Mobile at their highest settings. In addition, the area around the camera module became quite hot, so we had to take a break from using the phone. Playing intense games on a smartphone for extended periods could be difficult. According to benchmark testing, the phone's processor competes with the Snapdragon 660 SoC. These results were obtained using Geekbench 5, not the older version. Android Pie is the operating system on which the phone is based, and Samsung's UI is added to the top of the phone. Despite the added layer, the program functions similarly and runs smoothly, thanks to its optimization. It should be noted, however, that the phone is equipped with numerous pre-installed applications, of which the majority cannot be removed. It comes with over 20 pre-installed programs, including the Microsoft software suite, Samsung's first-party apps, and the Galaxy programs store, as well as Netflix, Facebook, and others. When compared to the default Android experience, Samsung's One UI has various added features. For example, you may choose the navigation system and rearrange the buttons for it. It has Digital Wellbeing and Wind Down modes. By enabling Wind Down mode, your phone screen will switch to a calming grayscale and activate Do Not Disturb mode to help you unwind. With the Dual Messenger feature, you can run two compatible apps simultaneously. Additionally, you can view notifications on your lock screen through the Always-On feature. CameraThe Galaxy M30s' back camera is made up of three lenses, each of which has distinctive qualities. The main sensor consists of a 48MP primary sensor with an F2.0 pixel lens, an 8MP ultra-wide pixel sensor with an F2.2 pixel lens for the secondary sensor, and a 5MP depth sensor for the third lens. Although the camera setup on the new Smartphone appears to be better than its predecessor based on the specs, the actual visual quality has worsened. The primary camera can take 12 MP pictures, but using the toggle and aspect ratio options, you can capture 48 MP photos. Additionally, the phone has an AI-powered scene optimizer to help identify the subject being photographed. The M30s offers various shooting modes, such as Pro mode, where you can control the camera's settings completely. You can choose the blur level for your photos with the Live Focus option and edit it later in the gallery app. However, the Night Mode only improves brightness and doesn't enhance the overall quality of the images. Although the photos taken in daylight were satisfactory, they needed more detail and clarity. Additionally, the wide-angle images became grainy and less sharp when zoomed in. The phone has a 16 MP front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture. It produces some really detailed pictures. There's a button for switching between wide and standard photographs when using the front-facing camera, which is a good touch. Battery and OthersThe battery capacity of a smartphone is its most crucial component. The Galaxy M30s boasts a 6000 mAh battery, ensuring long-lasting battery life. With moderate to regular usage, this smartphone can stay powered on for up to two days on a single charge. The smartphone may be charged from 0% to 22% and up to 43% in an hour using the 15W charger included in the package. To fully charge the smartphone, however, it takes around two hours. The frame over the front-facing camera module is now where the earpiece is located. Because of how you hold the phone, the earpiece is often kept above your ear during calls, which might occasionally result in a lower voice. ConclusionThe Galaxy M series from Samsung is a promising range, but the new Galaxy M30s falls short of expectations. The phone lacks the necessary features to distinguish itself in the highly competitive mid-range smartphone market. The smartphone isn't an excellent one, but at this price range, it's just not thrilling enough.
