Tecno's newest Spark Go 2023 is now available as a low-cost entry-level phone. The phone has flat frames and a lovely textured surface. It features an IPS LCD screen and a Helio A22 processor.

A sizable 5000mAh battery that provides two days of power backup is also included. The phone is completed with a dual 13MP camera arrangement. So who ought to purchase this phone? Given its low starting price of 7K, this phone seems like a good choice.

But is it really the finest entry-level phone? Can it defeat its competitors? So without any more delay, let's start.

Tecno Spark Go 2023 Review

Price and Variants

In India, there are three distinct variants of this phone. For Rs. 6,999, the phone boasts 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. A 3GB and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant is also available.

The phone has three color options: Endless Black, Uyuni Blue, and Nebula Purple. The phone is available both online and in stores.

Box Contents

The following items may be found within the smartphone's box:

  • Phone
  • 10W Adaptor
  • Type-C Cable
  • SIM Card Ejector
  • Transparent TPU Case
  • Documents

Design and Display

This phone looks extremely inexpensive but performs far better than its asking price. It is made of plastic and has a striking design. The tablet is easy to handle and grip because of its flat frame and textured back. The smartphone feels light, and its weight is evenly dispersed. Because of the device's textured rear, you don't need to be concerned about fingerprint stains. Although the fingerprint sensor on the camera module takes some time to get used to, it is simple to reach because it is positioned above the center line.

Despite being 8.9mm thick, the phone doesn't feel overly heavy in the hand. However, the thickness was much more noticeable when I used the gadget in the accompanying transparent cover from the package. The volume sliders and flat power buttons on the right are pretty sensitive. The SIM card slot is on the left side, while the type-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, speakers, and microphone are on the bottom.

The phone's display is a 6.56-inch LCD screen with a refresh rate 60Hz and a peak brightness of 480 nits. The display produces good colors and is frequently appropriate for watching videos. It has excellent viewing angles because it has an IPS display. The brightness, at 480 nits, is adequate for viewing indoors but struggles when used outside.

For instance, the display was inadequate when snapping images in the daylight. In other words, while outside, you can see who is texting or phoning you clearly. However, it will be difficult to discern fine details in a video if you are in full sunlight.

Let's also discuss the audio performance. The bottom of the phone has a single speaker unit. It really has higher quality than we can anticipate for a gadget on this budget, but it fails in terms of volume and sound quality.

Cameras

The phone has a dual camera on the backside. There is a 2MP lens and a 13MP main camera incorporated. A 5MP camera is on the device's front for selfies and video calls. There isn't much to say when discussing camera quality. It captures simple photographs that are adequate for the price. In good daylight, the primary camera can capture some passable images.

But when I tried to take some pictures inside, the photographs were too loud. In addition, the colors appeared a little dull. The portrait pictures looked good. It was hit or miss with the edge detection.

The front-facing 5MP camera produced some decent daytime photos. The skin tones appeared quite genuine. However, there were a lot of details lacking. Portrait selfies were a complete failure.

The camera system is adequate for this price and produces quality selfies in well-lit settings. The same is true for video quality. However, videos tend to shake because there is no integrated stabilization (expected at this price point).

Battery Life

The smartphone features a big 5,000mAh battery. It lasted about a day and a half, even with moderate use. It worked 6-7 hours of screen time, which is excellent even for intensive use situations. It is important to note that these results came from real-world use cases of light programs. Your results may differ if you try to play demanding games on it.

The battery charges from 0-100% with a 10W charger, which takes around 2 hours. However, that is to be anticipated with a smartphone in this price range.

Performance

The processor powers the phone with up to 4GB RAM and 64GN internal storage. Being an entry-level phone, it can only do simple operations like messaging, online browsing, taking pictures, and making calls.

When you run heavy apps or games on the phone, it slows. While using the UI, I frequently had delays and shutters. It was quite a glitch, even on the camera app. Leaving that aside, you may use WhatsApp and YouTube as casual apps without issues. On the other hand, more resource-intensive apps like Instagram, Snapchat, and others of a similar nature sometimes lag and do not provide a smooth experience. In terms of gameplay, don't anticipate it to run COD, PUBG, or any other graphically demanding games.

You may use it to play light games such as Subway Surfers, Candy Crush, etc. Although I won't say it performs below average, there are alternative phones at this price that have better performance.

The phone is powered by Android 12 under the HiOS V12 skin. Although operating on Android 13 would have been excellent, it doesn't matter. The OS has many features, like game mode, kinds mode, dual applications, smart panel, and many more. Additionally, the gadget comes with some pre-installed trash that you may remove from the settings. Overall, the UI appears simple.

Pros Cons
  • Good design
  • Better battery life
  • Good display
  • Type-C charging available
  • Dual rear camera options
  • Expandable storage with an external memory card
  • An exclusive biometric sensor
  • Average UI performance
  • Does not support 5G network
  • Runs on Android 12
  • Low-quality body material used
  • Slow Charging
  • Small RAM Capacity
  • Uses old Bluetooth version

Conclusion

If you're searching for a 4G smartphone that is affordable, this phone is a fantastic choice. The phone has a reliable battery life and produces decent daytime photos. Yes, the performance isn't the finest for this price, but it's still acceptable.

The large camera lenses and textured rear panel make it look like a mid-range phone. The POCO C50 could be the best option if you're looking for a more affordable entry-level gadget.
