Brahmastra Movie Review

Introduction

One of the most talked-about Bollywood projects was, without a doubt, Brahmastra. In addition to seeing Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt together on screen for the first time, the movie also explored the fantasy genre, which was uncommon for Bollywood. The most significant, potent weapon of the gods was the centre of the movie's plot. According to the source, "It was an old weapon that has been dismantled and kept in the kingdom of the gods at several locations in India. The first book in the trilogy was about Shiva's discovery of fire within him and how it ultimately caused him to seek the Brahmastra sword. Amitabh Bachchan plays Shiva's Guru; Ranbir plays Shiva, who discovered the fire within him to acquire this weapon; Alia plays Isha, who helped him on his daring adventure; and Nagarjuna as an archaeologist who was repairing an old temple in Varanasi.

The villainous characters, played by Mouni Roy and Saurav Gurjar, were also seeking the same weapon. With numerous references to Indian mythology, it was essentially a daring struggle between good and evil to become the most powerful person on the planet. Varanasi was where the action began and where all of the characters in the movie met. It was the starting point of the action. The plot followed a similar pattern to The Avengers film series in which good and evil compete to possess a powerful object, with good advancing to prevent evil from destroying the planet. Brahmastra is used here, although the infinity stones were used in The Avengers.

Ayan Mukerji's movie, which was supposed to be out around Christmas 2019, was instead released in 2022 as a result of some more VFX work.

The highly awaited Indian fantasy adventure movie "Brahmastra: Shiva" was directed by Ayan Mukerji. With an ensemble cast that included some of Bollywood's greatest stars, including Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Amitabh Bachchan, the film served as the first chapter in the intended trilogy. "Brahmastra: Shiva" was a story of love, destiny, and exceptional abilities in a made-up universe where advanced technology and old mysticism coexist.

The mythical weapon known as the Brahmastra, a source of great power that may alter the course of the world, served as the plot's focal point. Shiva's journey took him to Varanasi, an ancient city with the secret to understanding the Brahmastra. This movie had the most significant budget ever produced in Bollywood. In addition to Ranbir and Alia, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, Nagarjuna, and Shahrukh Khan made special appearances in this movie. Additionally, this movie cost roughly 410 crores to produce. It might be shocking to learn that Brahmastra had surpassed 1.5 lacs in advance ticket sales, moving it up the list of the Top 10 Advance Booking Movies on Tap.

Brahmastra: Hit or Fail, Detailed Analysis

Several things had been spoken about, published, tweeted, and discussed regarding Brahmastra Part One-Shiva's box office earnings. According to its producers, The movie reportedly made 360 crores in international box office receipts. That's a significant sum?this year's largest for a Hindi picture. However, many people are hesitant to declare the movie a success. For them, the film's colossal 410-crore budget was the rider. It made sense?how can a movie be considered successful if the producers don't get their money back?

Why box office collections and budget both matter

Brahmastra had made 220 crore net in all Indian languages as of Monday night, day 11 after its premiere. The movie also made roughly 80 crore net in foreign sales, bringing its total worldwide earnings to a tidy 300 crore net. The amount was less than the gross collection because it did not include the government-imposed entertainment and service taxes. The amount that the industry made was always the net collection.

Now comes the challenging part. Even if two films gross the same amount of money, that doesn't necessarily indicate they were equally successful. The Kashmir Files, which was just four months old when Brahmastra was launched, is the best comparable. The movie's net earnings were roughly 290 crores (gross: 340 crores), almost the same as Brahmastra's. However, the production budget for The Kashmir Files was only 15 crore, compared to 410 crore for Brahmastra. The Kashmir Files was a true blockbuster, but Brahmastra is still up for debate.

The bottom line was that a movie's standing was greatly influenced by its budget. According to industry expert Atul Mohan, "The budget does play a significant part in deciding a film's status at the box office. To be considered a hit, a movie must make back its landing costs through net box office receipts. It may be labelled anything from below average to a failure depending on how much worse it performs. Similarly, whether a film is a superhit or a blockbuster depends on how much money it makes relative to its budget. A movie's recovery is the amount it brings in after its landing costs. Simply put, a film must have at least ₹1 of recovery to be called a hit.

Landing Cost for Brahmastra

The total amount the filmmakers spend on a movie, including the production budget, the publicity budget, and other ancillary costs, is referred to as the landing cost. However, producers rarely make such data public. Therefore, one must rely on sources. Most articles and sources cite the frequently cited amount of 410 crores as the production budget for Brahmastra. The movie's budget was reportedly 650 crore, according to Andhra Box Office and Kangana Ranaut's social media tweets.

The film's lead, Ranbir Kapoor, recently claimed that the budget was divided into three parts, which had only served to further the uncertainty. There were three parts of Brahmastra Part One-Shiva. Ranbir claimed in a recent interview that the three films share the film's VFX expenditure. Ranbir, who spoke to Dainik Bhaskar, said, "The assets we have created for the film, like the fire VFX or effects for other superpowers, will be used in three films." Even though there is no official source, Brahmastra's VFX budget was believed to be 100 crores. If that were the case, the budget for this movie must be reduced by $50 to $70 crore. Accordingly, the whole budget for Part One was between 350 and 600 crore, depending on whom we believe.

For Brahmastra to succeed, the movie must earn between 350 and 600 crores. Only four Hindi films?none in the pandemic?have made more than 600 crores. The 350-crore number appears to be very attainable nonetheless. By the time the movie's run is over, it should be a success if the lower estimate is correct. Any higher will be challenging.
