Summary

The great cinematic story frequently involves tensions between internal and exterior love, passion, and fury. Nevertheless, these tales must not be expertly told on the big screen. Ahan Shetty and Tara Sutaria are the stars of director Milan Luthria's love story, which is rife with passion, fury, and drama. Luthria, set in Mussoorie, introduces us to Ishana (Ahan Shetty) in the most cinematic way possible.

Ishana is at a point in his life when he would beat up or kill everything that gets in his way. To say that he is violent is probably an understatement. He arrived here due to a severe heartbreak, and it nearly seems impossible for him to turn back now.

The movie's story, based on an actual event, is heartbreaking. To get to the conclusion, which it offers with a clever twist, it encounters several obstacles.

Ahan does his best to pull as much as possible from the poorly written character in his feature picture debut. He can perform, dance, and get down in the winter sun. However, neither Ishana's character nor his love life are very relatable. Because of this, it becomes impossible to feel sympathy for the protagonist when his sweetheart (Ramisa, played by Tara Sutaria) chooses someone else.

Tara has only been in a few films, so why is she always given Miss Goodie Two Shoes roles? When Tara, as Ramisa departs from that Tadap, even though it is only for a limited time, she holds her own and displays a new side. But the love story between Ishana and Ramisa, at the center of the movie, is unusually hard for the audience to care about.

Undoubtedly, at the halfway point of the movie, you're looking for the "Tadap" factor. The first half includes up to four songs; a few more are added after the interval.

Undoubtedly, at the halfway point of the movie, you're looking for the "Tadap" factor. The first half includes up to four songs; a few more are added after the interval.

Tadap, as is typical, contains a little bit of everything you'd anticipate from a Bollywood movie. It has drama, dance, action, and a love tale and puts the male ego on display, but nothing will completely blow you away.

Looking at the two major characters in sleeveless and shirtless costumes for a drama set in the highlands is difficult. Especially given that the rest of the cast is wearing beanies, jackets, and shawls. Even though the hills and houses are brilliantly represented in the cinematography, Luthria's passionate love story falls short of being captivating.

Yes, it does provide some comic relief in spots. Still, Tadap is left in a precarious position due to its cliched writing, how the lead actors deliver those phrases, and how nearly the entire plot fizzles out after the interval. The plot is then boosted once more by its twist as the journey to the climax starts.

Reviews from Various Platforms

  • Times of India

Tadap unapologetically plays with action, music, and well-shot graphics to the crowd. Still, greater freedom in the narrative would have allowed the performers to convey a more memorable love tale, according to Times of India reviewer Rachana Dubey, who awarded the movie a 3/5 rating. Ahan has an impressive screen presence and has a spark in his debut outing; Saurabh Shukla pulls off his act with enough warmth and conviction; and Tara Sutaria as Ramisa looks stunning in every frame, the author noted in her assessment of the acting of Shetty, Sutaria, and Shukla.

  • Times of India
  • Hindustan Times

Tadap delivers raw action filled with heavyweight language, old-school romance, passion, treachery, bloodshed, and a few poetry words to lend a hint of comedy, according to Monika Rawal Kukreja of Hindustan Times. She wrote, "Ahan Shetty and his character arch leave a long impression," in her admiration of his portrayal. He makes an intense and impressive debut as a young, enraged action hero, but Sutaria's role was criticized for lacking depth and dimension.

  • Indian Express

The Indian Express Shubhra Gupta awarded the movie a score of 1/5, describing the dialogue as loud and the characters as stereotypical. She called the movie's premise "jaded" and "worthless," saying that even if the debutant hero had tried to come across differently, the tired plot would not have let it.

  • NDTV

The movie received a 1.5/5 rating from Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV, who described it as bland and uninteresting. The lack of any original sleights in the film, he claimed, is the least of its flaws. When you go underneath the prettified veneer, a misogynistic tirade presented as a movie is what you discover. He commended Shetty, saying he radiates toughness, vulnerability, and cherubic vitality. Still, he also criticized the writing of Tara Sutaria's part, saying that she was given a poorly written role and that the script was biased against her.

  • Scroll

The movie received a 1/5 rating from Nandini Ramnath of Scroll, who described it as a twisted narrative of misogyny. The author stated that Tadap values passionate male love and has a harsh response in mind for the lady who doesn't give her full attention.

  • Filmfare

He scores the most in action scenes [and] is comfortable in front of the camera overall and makes a convincing start, according to Devesh Sharma of Filmfare, who awarded the movie a rating of 3/5. Sharma concluded by saying, "The leads share a spark." Their hysteria is supported by Kumud Mishra and Saurabh Shukla's strong supporting turns.

  • The Hindu

In a rare instance of humor, two 'lovers' in this Milan Luthria movie hurl Hindi literature and pulp fiction at one another. This convoluted love story, adapted from a Telugu movie, virtually serves as a metaphor for the jumble of unprocessed thoughts thrown at us in the novel's scene.

The Box Office Collection

Tadap made 4.05 crore on the first, 4.12 crore on the second day, and 5.35 crore on the third day, bringing its whole domestic opening weekend gross to 13.52 crore.

The movie earned 34.86 crore as of December 30, 2021, with domestic box office receipts of 32.04 crore and international box office receipts of 2.82 crore.

The IMDB rating of this movie is 5.1. Many viewers say the movie is a hit; others say it is not so good, so we can consider it an average movie.

Conclusion

Although Tadap is a sleek and expertly created movie, it is bloody and unsettling. The violence in the movie is frequently unnecessary, making it occasionally unpleasant to watch. Though the movie's performances are excellent, its emotional core is eventually compelling. Tadap is, in general, a mixed bag. Although it is a well-made movie with excellent acting, it is also violent and upsetting. Your tolerance for violence and openness to the emotional essence of the movie will determine whether you like it or not.

Here are some of the movie's benefits and drawbacks:

Positive points

  • The Hindu
  • Tara Sutaria and Ahan Shetty gave outstanding performances.
  • Stylish and high-quality production
  • Touching narrative

Negative points

  • Gratuitous brutality
  • Unsettling material

Overall, Tadap is a movie worth seeing because of its excellent performance and compelling plot. But those who are easily offended by violence might wish to stay away from this movie.
