Varun Doctor Review

The talented cast includes Sivakarthikeyan, Vinay Rai, Priyanka Arul Mohan, Yogi Babu, Milind Soman, and other skilled actors. The music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

Background

Siva Karthikeyan is a well-known Kollywood actor known for his diverse range of entertainment. His latest movie, Doctor, will be released in Telugu on October 9th under Varun Doctor. Discover what this film has in store for cinema enthusiasts.

Review of the Story

Varun (Siva Karthikeyan), a military doctor, falls in love with Padmini (Priyanka Arul Mohan), but their wedding is called off due to Varun's behavior. Despite this, Varun decides to help Padmini's family when he learns her niece has gone missing. The story takes unexpected turns from there.

Reviewing Artists and Technicians

The story of Nelson Dilip Kumar starts slow but picks up after a kidnapping episode. The first half is filled with humor and engaging content, and the intermission is timed well. One standout moment is Nelson's metro train scenario, which showcases his excellent dark comedy. However, the second half becomes more serious, leading to a decline in pace due to routine aspects. The opening is entertaining, focusing on racing and elements reminiscent of Nani's Gang Leader and Nelson's Kolamavu Koika. The movie is a laughing riot, with clever one-liners and conversations. Although the film defies logic, the first half provides some wholesome entertainment before deviating from its original track.

To portray a different character in a new genre, Siva Karthikeyan had to tone down his usual humorous and popular actions and mannerisms. He skillfully embraced the unfamiliar role that director Nelson had given him, although, at times, his facial expressions and body language seemed stiff. Meanwhile, Priyanka Arul Mohan did an excellent job with her role, but unfortunately, her character was not given many chances to showcase her talents. Initially portrayed as a strong and wise woman, her character becomes less intelligent as the story progresses.

Vinay Rai gave a commendable performance as the villain in the movie Villain, while Yogi Babu's comedic performance delighted many. Yogi Babu's on-screen presence was strong, and director Nelson fully utilized his abilities. Redin Kingsely's funny act stole the show. However, fans of Siva Karthikeyan may be disappointed as his character needed more opportunities to crack jokes. Milind Soman and Raghu Ram's roles could have been utilized more, but Archana, Ilavarasu, Sunil, and Deepa played their parts well.

Anirudh Ravichander's music was excellent, with his background score significantly impacting and elevating the film. Vijay Karthik Kannan's cinematography was noteworthy, utilizing ideal camera angles to provide a genuine feel to the movie. Although Nirmal's editing was good, some minor adjustments could have been made in the second half. The production values were outstanding.

The Benefits

  • The prominent feature of the movie is Siva Karthikeyan because he displays a distinct aspect of his personality. He generates intense drama and comedy as an army doctor and carries the entire movie. In the movie, Siva and Priyanka have a cute chemistry.
  • The sequences with Yogi Babu and Priyanka's family are excellent, and the humor primarily works. The thrills have been presented uniquely by director Nelson.
  • Nelson does an excellent job of executing the film's dark comedy. The movie has a positive message about women's safety. Additionally, the pre-climax's thrills were accomplished beautifully.

The Drawbacks

  • One of the movie's weaknesses is the artistic license that the director used with the crime scenes involving women. Although the lesson is sound, the situations in the modern digital environment seem a little out of proportion.
  • There are a few pauses here and there throughout the second half. The storyline is not very good at this point, and the action becomes dull. The tale of girls being kidnapped has also been depicted in earlier movies.

Analysis of Ratings

The combination of Nelson Dilip Kumar and Siva Karthikeyan caught viewers' attention. However, the second half of Varun Doctor unexpectedly disappoints them. The movie's first half takes the viewers on a delightful journey with a touch of dark humor. If Nelson had continued the same humor in the second half without a break, Varun Doctor, with its humorous Spanish flair, could have had a more significant impact. Considering these factors, Varun Doctor receives a 2.25 out of 5 stars.
