Hungama 2 Summary

This is an unexpected follow-up to the 2003 comedy film "Hungama," where Paresh Rawal, Tiku Talsania, Manoj Joshi, and Rajpal Yadav reprise their roles. The movie tries to recapture the same fantastical and absurd world created by Priyadarshan, but with the addition of new cast members, things go differently than planned.

Hungama 2 on Disney+Hotstar is disappointing as it needs more substance and falls apart quickly. Priyadarshan's comedies were previously praised for their balanced craziness, but this movie lacks control and is filled with frivolous moments. Unfortunately, it was made too late to make an impact. Hungama 2, which is outdated, tells the story of a young woman who comes to find the supposed father of her child, a jealous husband who embarrasses himself, and a strict father who doesn't tolerate nonsense.

The plot of a mother searching for a father while raising a child under the strict rule of a taskmaster is an outdated story device. The mother's allegations leading to a riot are more comical than heartwarming. In the Priyadarshan comedy, the main characters are expected to engage in a funny chase scene. However, Hungama 2 only briefly shows us what could have been an outrageous free-for-all, similar to what we have seen in Hungama, Hulchul, and Bhaagam Bhaag. The movie abruptly ends with Rajpal Yadav frozen in mid-air before crashing a wedding where things do not go as planned.

Hungama 2 is a comedy movie that needs to make the audience laugh. The characters are stuck in the past, including Colonel Kapoor (played by Ashutosh Rana), a former jail superintendent who still behaves like a prison warden. The story revolves around the wedding of his younger son Akash (played by Meezaan Jaaferi) to Bajaj (played by Manoj Joshi), a close friend of his father. However, when a woman named Vaani (played by Pranitha Subhash) arrives at the bungalow with her daughter and claims that Akash is the father, chaos ensues, and the wedding plans are disrupted.

Hungama 2 is trapped in a repetitive cycle for the next two hours. Kapoor believes the girl's story and demands proof that Akash did not behave inappropriately with Vaani while dating in college. Unfortunately, the odds are not in Akash's favour. In an effort to appear modern, Hungama 2 uses slang terms like "aatankwaadi" for Kapoor's mischievous grandkids, "ghuspaithi" for Vaani, and says that gossip will spread like a virus. However, Hungama 2 ultimately relies on tired clich�s for its main storyline.

When a movie lacks substance, adding crazy characters and strange storylines to make it more interesting is the foundation of sloppy comedy. However, a comedy that lacks humour is worse than anything. In Hungama 2, the main focus is on Paresh Rawal, who portrays a lawyer accusing his wife Anjali (played by Shilpa Shetty, making her big-screen comeback after 14 years) of cheating on him with a younger man to keep the plot engaging.

It is best to only ask about Anjali's job if there is little information about it. Although she is said to be Akash Kapoor's secretary, this cannot be confirmed as neither seems to have any obvious high-paying or recognizable job. Radheshyam Tiwari, the lawyer, spends most of his time monitoring Anjali's activities through a spy camera installed at his front door. However, his anger is directed toward the men he suspects rather than his attractive girlfriend. He chases after them on his scooter, leading to a series of comical events when he mistakenly believes he has caught the culprit in the act.

The main protagonists face numerous setbacks as their plans continually go awry. The strict patriarch is determined to keep Vaani hidden from Bajaj, the prospective father-in-law of Akash. Akash resorts to using every trick in the book to prove that he is not the father of Vaani's child, but the book has become outdated. As a last resort, Akash seeks the help of Popat, the college canteen manager, and Nandan, the family factotum, to assist him in evading the situation, but unfortunately, every action he takes results in further complications and more problems.

Hungama 2 Review

Comedies often showcase people struggling to get their lives in order, which is the theme of Hungama 2. However, the movie needs more cohesion, and the performances by Kapoor, Bajaj, and Tiwari cannot salvage the disjointed story.

The movie's poor quality overshadows the performances in Hungama 2, despite the presence of talented comedic actors. The timing of the film is also off. The cast cannot be expected to elevate the material, as they are given a mix of exaggerated acting and emotional scenes to work with. Additionally, the young leads need to be helped by the weak writing, leaving Meezan Jaffrey and Pranitha Subhash struggling to shine.

Hungama 2 features throwback songs like the mid-'90s hit Chura Ke Dil Mera Goriya Chali, with Shilpa Shetty, who also starred in the original Main Khiladi Tu Anadi. The movie also includes references to classic Bollywood films and dialogues. In the movie, the two main characters perform a song and dance that pays homage to Sridevi's Kaate Nahi Katati Din Yeh Raat and Madhuri Dixit's Dil Dhak Dhak Karne Laga. The scene also features a cameo by Akshaye Khanna, the lead actor from Hungama. However, the vintage elements of the performance and the movie as a whole could be better received.
