DSP Movie Review

Plot

In Dindugal, the setting of DSP, Vascodagama, the son of a flower seller, gets into a violent argument with the rude Muttai Ravi. The opponent is referred to as Muttai, Tamil for "egg," because his family distributes eggs across the area and elsewhere. Vascodagama has been banished from his community and isn't even permitted to attend his sister's wedding. Vascodagama joins the police to get revenge and returns as a DSP to find Muttai Ravi.

Movie Review

DSP is a usual revenge story with many elements one should expect from a popular movie if it had been created a decade earlier. Despite Vijay Sethupathi's best efforts, the movie's plot provides very little to both the actor and the viewer. However, Ponram's screenplay becomes better as the film progresses.

A typical police introduction sequence shows Vascodagama (Vijay Sethupathi) beating up a wanted criminal before being sent to the Dindigul district. Viewers learned about Vascodagama's friends, family, and life as the kid of a flower seller in a flashback. After he fights Ravi, a local policeman suggests Vascodagama leave the city and protect himself. Vascodagama returned to his birthplace as DSP.

After establishing the protagonist's motivation for a while and interspersing it with a corny romantic song, director Ponram waits until an hour into the movie before introducing the first serious problem. We keep expecting something spectacular to happen, but instead, we are inundated with boring commercial cliches.

After Sethupathi, this is Vijay Sethupathi's second outing as a cop in a movie with applaud-worthy moments and sensitively handled emotional scenes. In this case, even Vijay Sethupathi's performance is not up to expectations. Anukreethy's role has nothing to contribute; she plays the stereotypical Ponram heroine with a few comedic scenes. Prabakar portrays violent rowdy-turned-politician Mutta Ravi, & it's one of the best performances in the film.

Other characters come and go, but they have no lasting impact. Shivani Narayanan, who enters the scene in the 2nd half as a police officer, adds charm. The sequence should have been better written, despite Vemal's excellent cameo presence.

Direction / Technical Side

The movie's opening scenes are reminiscent of comedic remakes of popular police dramas. In Dindugal, where he hangs out with his friends, looks for a job, and occasionally encounters the feisty Annapoorani, these sections define Vasco's positive perspective on life and the existence of his family.

In the second half, this well-known cop comedy transforms into a tale of revenge. Everything is written casually without including any feelings in DSP. When the main character takes his retribution, we do not experience that catharsis. A cheesy love song with Anu Keerthy arrives in the middle of the chaos. This connection doesn't work with the story.

We keep hoping for something amazing to happen in the movie, but we all get a constant barrage of unimaginative commercial cliches.
