Itlu Maredumilli Prajaneekam Review

Allari Naresh's film, Naandhi, marks his return to serious courtroom drama. The story is set in the city of Maredumilli during a political time.

The Story

In the movie, a Telugu teacher named Srinivas Sripada (played by Allari Naresh) is assigned election duty in Maredumilli. This small town needs more basic amenities and therefore does not participate in voting. The story revolves around his efforts to convince the residents to vote and how they ultimately come together to win the much-needed basic amenities for their village.

Performances

Allari Naresh is known for portraying the underdog character, a simple Telugu teacher looking out for a village. He doesn't use his strength to confront the thugs but instead takes a lot of beatings. The character of Vennela Kishore could be more impressive and is just there to fill the gaps with some silly jokes. Raghu Babu's character could be more impressive, despite receiving a lot of build-ups. None of the characters except the protagonist leaves a lasting impression.

Sampath plays the role of a collector adequately but is shown as weak and powerless until the movie's end when his attitude changes abruptly. Anandhi plays the character of Lachimi, Naresh's love interest, well and has some enjoyable moments but is ultimately cast aside. Sritej, who has plenty of screen time, does justice to his role. Praveen, a comedian, also does well in his serious role. The other characters are just passable.

Technicalities

The story of Itlu Maredumilli sounds excellent on paper, but it struggles to come to life on screen. While it's a fantastic concept, it has yet to develop fully, resulting in a lackluster story. However, Abburi Ravi's discussions do add value to the film. The stunning scenery of the Maredumilli forest region and captivating graphics are noteworthy, while Sri Charan's background music beautifully complements the visuals.

Key Points

  • The dialogues and overall concept are well done.
  • There is a notable scene before the intermission.
  • The episode involving the election results is particularly noteworthy.

Drawbacks

However, there are some drawbacks to the production:

  • The execution could use some improvement.
  • There is no satisfying climax to the story.
  • Some of the situations in the plot are predictable.

Analysis

The argument presented in Itlu Maredumilli Prajaneekam could be more original, as it brings to mind the movie Newton starring Rajkummar Rao. However, Maredumilli tries to be a serious film that portrays emotions and feelings. The movie starts slowly and takes time to introduce the characters and their personalities, with some comedic and somber sequences in the first half. The issues and struggles of the people of Maredumilli are accurately depicted, such as in a scene where Naresh successfully delivers a baby using an age-old water force method. While there are some exciting scenes throughout the movie, such as the election results scene, the military segment, and discussions between the administration and Maredumilli are uninteresting.

The screenplay could have been better, as the movie feels half-baked, and some elements work while others do not. Naresh's emphasis on the importance of Telugu and democracy is insightful and moving, but the movie ultimately follows a well-worn path and rushes to a predictable conclusion.

In summary, Itlu Maredumilli Prajaneekam has less impact and more drama, earning a 2.5/5 rating.
