The movie "Circus," original name "Cirkus," is directed by Rohit Shetty; this movie was released on 23rd December 2022. The leading male role in the movie is "Ranveer Singh," and the leading female role is "Pooja Hegde and Jacqueline Fernandez." There is a double role of, Ranveer Singh in this movie, and Varun Sharma is also there, so there are two leading actresses.

Storyline

The storyline of this movie starts with the separation of two sets of identical twins at the time of their birth; they ended up in the same town in the same year and at the same time; due to this, confusion is created in the movie and their lives.

Story Explanation

The first set of twins is "A square," and the second set of twins is "B square," they are later characterized as Roy; whose role was played by Ranveer Singh, and Joy; whose role was played by Varun Sharma. Two different couples adopted them, and thus unknowingly, a story is started in which disaster and confusion are created, and when the boys become adults, they suddenly get to meet their twin brothers, but they do not know they are brothers. We want to say this story can be finished in just one line; Rohit Shetty wanted to show this story as a comedy type, but it seems a little low in this context.

The set of the movie is unique; it looks like a theme park with a colorful set of scenes that looks unreal and sets of unique green hills of Ooty; this movie tries to portray the view of the late 60s or early 70s era because the director of the movie wants to show his respects to the cinema of that era. Many classic Bollywood numbers are shown in the movie's background at every possible opportunity, and the only thing louder than the customers of the previous year's actors is their acting in this movie. It's an all-out comedy show, but the problem is not only that viewers of this generation have seen so many movies with comedy, but those movies are also directed by the same director, i.e., Rohit Shetty.

This film fails to make any genuinely laugh; only one or two scenes manage to make the audience laugh, as we expect from the movie from Rohit Shetty. For an instant, the lead role of Roy gets immune to high-voltage currents and performs a stunt that requires making two live wires touch each other with his bare hands. This act he was performing in his "Jubilee Cirkus," but due to this, his twin brother Joy gets a huge voltage shock, and those persons who touch him also get shocked. Though Roy is unharmed after this stunt, the rest of the scene of this plot is filled with stereotypical characters, dialogues that will never make the audience laugh, and problems that arise directionless. The screenplay lacks originality in terms of comedy and punchlines and is plagued by repetitive elements.

Ranveer Singh tried his best to perform both roles, but unfortunately, there was some lack in the description of both characters in the movie. There was some glow-up in the movie when in the song "current laga ra," Deepika Padukone showed up as a cameo. Varun Sharma is famous for his comic timing, but it was wasted in this movie. It is now up to only Johny Lever, who acted as Polson bhai, to bring charm to this movie; he did not disappoint his fans as he was the only one who could bring laughter to the audience in small screen time when the whole crew could not do it. Pooja Hegde looked stunning in her role as Roy's wife, Mala, while Jacqueline Fernandez added the necessary glamour as Roy's girlfriend. Sanjay Mishra's role wasn't particularly funny, but he made up for it with his acting.

Conclusion

Unfortunately, despite a battery of characters aiming to make us laugh, 'Cirkus' falls short of delivering on its promise to entertain and make people laugh. While Rohit Shetty has successfully entertained audiences with slapstick comedy and drama before, this time, he seems to have stumbled along the way.
